Vanderbilt vs Fordham

Undecided

Hi guys
I need some help to make up my mind. I've been accepted to Fordham, Cardozo and Vanderbilt, and sincerely don't know where to go. My interest is International Private Law.
Any thoughts are appreciated!

Where are you from? Sticking to my usual theme, I think a large factor is where you want to live. I am from a small place so I was excited to live in NYC for a year. But NYC has its downside in that it is very expensive. Vanderbilt is a pretty campus in a fun town (esp. if you like country music!) whereas both Cardozo and Fordham don't have great campuses although they are in a fantastic location.

ok, I don't usually buy into the rankings thing but the reality is that they count for a lot in the job market here especially where there is a huge disparity between school as is the case here.
So I would probably go with Vanderbilt unless you have a strong desire to live in New York. Living in New York can make it a lot easier to get to job interviews so it does make a practical difference. Choosing between the NYC schools I would choose Fordham.

Id like to try that for a year or two post cambridge, but not if it involves tons of rexaminations etc...
also, whats the general salary for a second year call at a bif firm in these countries??

Ummmm...I am not sure what you would need to qualify in Australia or NZ. I did meet a South African guy about 8 years ago in Sydney who had to do all the core courses (like torts, contract, equity) again but was working at the same time. A second year lawyer in Australia would get AUS$65k-ish. My husband was a lawyer in NZ and the second year salary is quite a bit less (I think around NZ$45k-ish but it could have gone up in the past few years). Hope that helps!
