Just got an "FedEx Shipment Notification" from Vanderbilt Law School. Does that mean they offer me admission or could it also be a bad sign? I received my "application complete" Email only 3 days ago!
Does anyone know what that's about?

Hi xdude, you were right! Received the "Congratulation..." email from Ms. Coleman some minutes ago...! ;-)

soon you will receive emails from others too from the school.
so wats your view about the school in general. i have received some emails from the ex-students and they sounded very positive abt Vandy's LLM program....last year they had only 22 seats for LLM and may be this year it will be 30.
I was also planning to apply for Boston and GWU but after getting a call from Vandy...I have dropped the idea of applying to those schools. I think Vandy should be a better choice from GWU or Boston wat your take on this?

Unless you get admitted to a uni that's ranked a lot higher, I would not reconsider and stick to Vanderbilt. After what I learned from letters of two German participants, it's a great place to study. From the application process I also got the impression that they really care about the LL.M. applicants/students.
Do you know what time they decide on the scholarships? On the website the say: "Recipients are identified during the selection process and notified after admission to the program. All admitted candidates are considered for scholarship awards." Does that mean we won't know before accepting the offer?

Boston is 21, GWU is 20 in ranking and Vandy is 15 so by higher ranking you mean say something in the top ten....Well! its very clear that if one gets a call from one of the top ten universities that one has applied to one will never reject those for Vandy.
Their committee for deciding on scholarship meets in Feb....dont know exactly when in Feb.
For your query, on availing of scholarship, whether they offer it to only those who accept the admission or its also available to students who receive offer letters but have yet to send their acceptance of the same.....I suggest you write to them, coz i have no idea abt it.
Anyways, am sure you are given enough time to accept the offer....
Take care and all the best!

This is just not true. I am an example of rejecting offers from NYU, University of Chicago, UPenn and Georgetown. Maybe crazy as it sounds to somebody for whom everything is reflected by school rankings only, but I did my homework before making my decision, and it was not an easy one.
A lot depends for what kind of experience you are looking for. If you want to end up in a big city, in a huge program where no one actually cares if you like it or not, it is one thing. If you don't want to end up in foreign country with no assistance whatsoever for a whole year, it is another. First month of adjustment can be tough, and people at Vandy go an extra mile for their LL.M. students, to help them settle in as painlessly, as possible. I felt this personal touch during the admission process, and I am very grateful for the things they made and keep making for me as a current student.
It's your call what you want from one year in the US.
Good luck with whatever you choose!

Hi Stessi,
could you explain us when the decision about scholarships / tuition waivers are made at Vanderbilt? Did many LL.M. students in your year receive one?
I agree that there are more important things than rankings and that you have to be comfortable with the choice you make for one whole year. But at least for me, the financial aspect is also an important factor to take into account...
Thanks for your posting, I'm surprised to find current LL.M. students on the board... I hope you did not get addicted to it during the admission process. You should have more important things to do ;-) Anyway, good for us, I think advise from people who actually know the program/uni is most valuable to all of us!!!

I don't know how they make these decisions and when exactly. I think I received my letter offering me a scholarship sometime in February, offer of admission was mailed to me on Jan, 9th. For some people they came together, I guess. I know several people who have scholarhips covering part of tuition costs, but I wouldn't be able to provide any figures since I am not in such close relationship with everybody as to ask them this kind of questions.
Some of the LLM students are also given opportunity to work as research assistants for professors which could provide some additional cash. At the end of the day, chances of getting a scholarship or of being offered to work for a professor largely depend on your credentials.
From the financial point of view living in Nashville is cheaper than in a bigger city, at least for the price of accomodation. That's anoter thing to consider.

Thanks, it's good to know that scholarship decisions should come before the acceptance deadline. I will also take a closer look at the prices of accomodation in the places I applied to. Besides, I just saw a short video about Nashville on Vanderbilt's website and it really seems to be a nice place!

Hi,
Congratulate all the admitted!!
I have a question concerning the "rejection of admission".
Does admission office of Vandy always send rejection letter by conventional mail (or courier services)? I recieved a FedEx shipment notification e-mail yesterday, but I didn't get any e-mail from Vandy yet.
Thank you in advance

hi guys and congratulations to all those who have been admitted
Can you guys tell me how much time does Vandy take to confirm the completeness of application. My supplementaty materials were delivered on 3rd and probably the recommendations by that time too. But I haven't heard anything yet.
