Value of an LLM in USA

Voice.of.R...

Most people applying for LLM's are either non-USA lawyers or recent JD grads seeking a career in tax. I want to know what your thoughts are regarding the value of a non-tax LLM (e.g., IP or Litigation) for a US JD holder with 5+ years of legal experience and not looking to make major shifts in practice. Will it add prestige to an already successful career? Or will it be overlooked or viewed as strange?

I only know of one practicing lawyer who has a non tax LLM. This attorney worked for a number of years in a mid size firm with insurance defense. He wanted to practice international law, specifically working with the WTO. He attainted an LLM in International Law from Gtown. I do not think the LLM helped him get the guy, he had it already lined up before going there. Instead, he did the LLM for educational purposes. He could not be happier.
