Urgent decision USA LL.M.

cristo

Hi all,

I am a Belgian attorney 6+ IT/IP experience admitted to several universities such as Georgetown, UGA (Athens, GA), SMU (Dallas), Chapman (LA) and some other.

Basically I want 1. a good US experience/college experience - 2 get a job eventually after in law/commercial

Doubting between Athens (great college town), Dallas (great work place) and DC (very expensive but international).

What do you think? Have one day left.

Thanks a lot for your feedback. Appreciate it.

Georgetown is by far the better ranked of these law schools and it has a much stronger reputation in Belgium. You can see the US news rankings:

Us news also has an IP law ranking:

Personally, I think Georgetown is your best option.

You can also compare some info about these law schools:

I agree with the other poster in that Georgetown is your best option.

As for UGA, I think you would have fun in Athens and, probably, enjoy your one year there - it is a great college town, BIG on college football, lots of beautiful coeds =) -, but because it is a small town, opportunities for internships/networking for jobs are pretty limited, especially in what you area of interest, and outside of Athens/Atlanta, Georgia can be a bit scary. Chapman is not that good of a school and LA is not really known for IT/IP law. As for SMU, it is not a bad school but pales in comparison to Georgetown's reputation and I personally do not find Dallas to be a very nice town.

Washington, DC is a GREAT town. I have posted on DC before. It is a young vibrant city with an international flavor. You have access to great cultural institutions, museums, great restaurants, street fairs, great music scene (9:30 Club, Constitution Hall, Wolf Trap, etc.). In addition to the social/cultural scene, there are ample opportunities for internships/externships, as DC is home to plenty of firms, government organizations, NGOs, etc. Georgetown enjoys a great reputation not only overall but also in IP. I have friends that graduated from Georgetown's LL.M. program and they really loved it. The LL.M. incoming classes are relatively large and the students are from all over the world. It really is an easy decision.
