Hi,
I sent my application to UF for the Graduate Tax Program last week and have now entered the waiting game (speaking of which, how long does it normally take to hear back?). UF is the only school I applied to and the only one I would go to (for personal/family reasons). I know its jumping the gun a lot, but what are career prospects like coming out of the school? Does everyone have a job?
Also, I have two years of work experience, but as a prosecutor. Will that hurt my chances of getting a tax job? I figure that a lot of people go straight from law school to get their LL.M., so while my work experience isn't relevant, it shouldn't hold me back either. Is that wishful thinking, or accurate?
Thanks!

I dont know from personal experience, but from reading past comments people who graduate from UF tax LLM can get a job in tax just about anywhere in the country they wish. My tax prof. graduated llm at NYU but says that UF's program is pretty much just as good and is recognized as such, possibly becoming just as respected as NYU's. Considering tuition is a lot less (if you are a florida resident) UF is a great place. (I would think that if your goal was to work in NYC that you may consider NYU, though).

Thanks, that's good to hear (we have no desire to live in the city). I'm not a Florida resident, but live in GA and should be able to get in-state tuition through the Academic Common Market. Now I just have to get accepted...

Typically, UF takes 4-6 weeks after they receive your completed application before they make a decision.

That's not too bad at all. Do they email or send the letter via regular mail? Small envelope = reject?

I hear responses start early feb.

Completed my app a while ago, but they seem to be making all decisions now. I actually called to check on the status as after I sent my stuff in I heard nothing back. The lady said "you got acepted, you should get a letter" and then I had one in my mailbox when I got home. Now I am crossing my fingers for NYU, wonder when they come out.

i haven't received anything from Levin but all the sudden today, they sent me an email saying according to florida law, all new students need to send them some immunization record. weird. did anybody else get this email?
Posted Feb 13, 2007 16:13
that probably means you got in. last year, i didn't get that stuff about the immunization record until after i was accepted.

Does anyone know the odds of getting accepted to UF if you are not in the top 25% of your law school class?
Posted Feb 19, 2007 04:51
it depends on what your law school is ranked and how far out of the top 25% you are.
