People of the world, I summon your learned wisdom to assist me in this great dilemma that i have come face to face leading to my ultimate choice for selection amongst the above mentioned schools of law for LL.M. I am interested in corporate and financial related subjects as it supplements my M.B.A in banking and finance. I have been admitted to both of these schools, but cant make a sound choice that resonates with need of the hour . Prestige vs Faculty and course availability. Ucla is ranked way lower but is known to offer more diverse and corporate inclined courses taught by very well known names.
As a foreign student , the chances for getting a job in U.S.A are slim . I am a realist , so should ranking matter at all. I also have been offered way more scholarship at ucla than i have at berkeley which is just 2000. what should i do! Does berkeley have a corporate [program at all. berkeley is way too expensive .
UCLA VS BERKELEY!

I didn't even read your post but don't even think of going to UCLA when you can attend Berkeley!

I know it has a big name. But for an individual who wishes to practice corporate law, instead of getting involved into academia , Is it still worth 67,000 G's when Ucla would cost 43,000 by adjustment of scholarship. Is berkeley really worth that much money! Dosent the beauty lie in the eyes of the lawyer who crafts his own empire! I mean its way too much costly , only if i could sell my soul to the devil for covering my tuition maybe! How abt you , did you make it to harvard!

The truth, as you most definitely realise, is again that it all depends on the reasons you find to make one choice.
Indeed if the ranking doesn't matter a lot in your case, and the financial aspects can be a problem, you could seriously consider UCLA. Berkeley isn't absolute top in corporate law anyways.

Wow , you certainly know a lot about ucla , are you also planning to go and attend this year's session lastlear, I am convinced i think after reading your post , that maybe ucla is the right choice. In the end when you picture yourself attending some looping mumbo jumbo symposium , and the person hosting the event introduces you , he goes sitting on the left panel , we have Mr x from michigan school , to his right is mr y from ucla , to his right is mr jigs from berkeley , and the whole crowd goes ohhh my god . and then to his right is mr john from harvard, and the whole crowd goes HOLY SHIT. i think brand does matter to some extent , no offence to Michigan . its a great school. The west coast job event is held each year at ucla., but i think one should make it to atleast getting someintership. But llm is really expensive in usa. Didnt make it to cambridge . how abt you guys Santa , lastlear . which schools are you planning to go to!

Personally, I think UCLA is a great choice. I was also admitted to both UCLA and UCB (and some other universities). However, I have a scholarship for Berkeley (private foundation). Therefore, it was quite easy for me to make my decision; also because I am interested in human rights, environmental law and IP. I also talked to friends who attended UCLA and they really had a great time there. They also got the chance to take "clinic courses" which is not possible for LL.M. students in many other law schools. Besides, the courses in entertainment law are also quite interesting. From an academic point of view, the courses are not that challenging which is not bad at all because you can spend much time at the beach :-)
Finally, LA is probably not a city everyone likes but UCLA is located in a very nice area near the beach and the Hollywood Hills.
If you have a scholarship: go to UCLA (the scholarship looks also very good in your CV and the ranking doesnt make such a big difference that I would pay some USD 20,000 for it). Don't think too much about rankings. Before four years or so, Berkeley was ranked much lower and UCLA is - in my eyes - a very good university well-known everywhere.
