U Penn Class of 2009

Mr Easter

Dear all

This post is intended for all admitted candidates to U Penn who plans to accept their offer and start in Summer 2008. Congradulations to all!!!

I'd like to discuss issues such as:

Everyones background (country/experience etc)
Reason for choosing U Penn (other than "I didn't get into Yale/Harv/Stan etc")
Short term goals after graduation
Financial assistance
Residence (on-campus vs outside)
Course selection
Wharton certificate
Anything else

I thought this would be a good way for all U Penn LLMs to get to know each other, and shares views on our upcoming experience at U Penn.

A little bout my self:
I'm 24 from Australia, planning to specialise in Corp/Sec Law. I have 2 y experience in corporate law/litigation. I choose UPenn over NYU and Northwestern because: IVY, strong reputation of producing business savy grads in eyes of employers, very high profile to employers in law and business, on the up&up in rankings and rep, cheaper cost of living, strong alumni network etc. I choose UPenn over NYU because I'm a major prestige whore, and a top IVY school was too hard to reject (I'd rather have LLM Pennsylvania behind my name, than LLM NYU), it was also hard to turn down NW. Got waitlisted at Cornell & Virginia, but now I got into UPenn, Cornell and Virginia can kiss my ass.

I plan to get a job in US after grad (I suspect most other LLMs will be in the same boat). I'm not sure about finassist (didn't apply for one). Any ideas about UPenn's application procedure for finassist? Too late to ask for one?

I want to do the Wharton cert but don't have 3 y experience. Any ideas on how I'd apply?

Not sure about living on- campus or gettin a pad near by. I hear rent is pretty cheap relative to NYC.

Look forward to hearing from my UPenn classmates!

Hi Mr Easter

I didn't know there's a fellow Aussie on this site... so few of us apply to US for LLM. I got into UPenn and NYU, but I'm inclind to take NYU. I too am a prestige ho and NYU just sounds better to me.... Hard choice though.

Good luck on your job hunt, may be i'll see u at UPenn, maybe....
