To Koala:
Well, presently the banking and finance practice is totally and heavely affected by the current economic downturn (or, better, the meltdown of the global financial system). Most of international law firms have carried out the so-called "redundancy" package, which provide for massive cuts in the practice. Even in UK leading magic circle firms such as A&O and CC are dismantling their leveraged finance practice...
The best a finance lawyer can make in the current situation is being "flexible", even working in restructuring practice for instance.
Due to te above, and assuming that current financial crisis lasts at least 1 (in the best case scenario), I strongly believe that 2009-2010 is the right year to award an LL.M. improving your academic background.
Assuming that current financial crisis lasts 2 or plus years (in the worst case scenario), following the LL.M. you could award an MBA. In such a case, the only thing you need is cash!
