To all Upenn admitted

Pash

Hi, I've already secured my place at Penn.
Who else did it?
I just want to exchange opinions about housing, courses, living expenses exc. and I'm also looking for a roommate.
I have some friends there who can answer to any question.
Regards,
Pasquale

Pash,you have decided? the 500$ deposit?
If I decided to go to Upenn, I will also search for off-campus housing...it is much cheaper..
some people told me philadelphia's crime rate is high..But we can stay at home in the evening....

@lawthinker
Yes, I decided and paied the deposit without waiting for other responses (Cornell and Virginia).
I have a couple of friends who are living off-campus. They told me that is quite safe and that the average rate for apartments is 600/700 US$ per month. The problem is that you can rent only empty apartments and need to buy everything.
Have you been admitted? Where do you come from?

Pasquale,
Friends of mine who are currently attending the LL.M at Penn are living in a nice and big house (South of South Street, i.e. down town Philly). It's a three-story house, 3 or 4 bedrooms, several bathrooms for $720 /month (each, i.e. 2200 total), heating expenses included. They're all going back to Europe at the end of the academic year and whish to hand over the lease for the house (and the furnitures they've bought for a decent price). I have not yet secured my admission (I am still waiting for HLS, CLS and NYU's decisions). If I go to Philly, that's the place I am going to live in and I will need roomies. If I don't, I'll give you the details of my friends so you can discuss the matter with them...

Dear Salomon and Pash:

I have also been admitted to UPenn. I am really interested in the house you mentioned, Salomon, and I'm also waiting to hear news about other law schools (Chicago, HLS, CLS).

I have been admitted to Michigan. I would appreciate, if you have some information, any help you may provide regarding the advantages/downsides that each of UPenn and Michigan have.

Take care,

Andrés.

Have you guys recieved the formal letter and package from UPenn? All the message I got from UPenn now was the admssion email (and I deleted it mindlessly when I cleared my mailbox.......how neglectful I am!! I even forgot the account and pin number to get into the admitted website. So I am still waiting for the formal letter and see what to so).

Also I am still waiting for other schools' results: GLS, HLS, U. of Chicago...etc..

@lawtinker: I mean COMPLETLY empty....

@Weiping: Why don't you send an email to GradHelp@law.upenn.edu and ask them to send you the password for their Intranet? You could say that you have delated all your emails because of a virus or something like that...

Hi all, I'm also waiting for a few responses before I make my decision (HLS and CLS), but it's good to know that the group of admitted students is full of nice people such as you guys. And it's also great to hear some insider information on off-campus housing.
Hope we'll be meeting soon! :)

hi, all:
first, congrats! welcome to Penn.
second, i dont think living off campus is *that* good, as opposed to the less than 5 munites walk from the dorm, esp. over the intense exam period. those who do not mind not so big room like me would definitely like the dorm. the rent now is 599/649/1100 for 1bd/2bd with kitchen/1bd+1 living rm respectively, including all the utility fees plus cable (internet and TV). most apt or house off campus might seem to cost less in the ageis of exclusion of electricity and cable fees. so, pls do think twice while you are making the decision. you definitely need the clarification from the landload!! addtionally, you can always move out before the fall semester comes. one of the three guys you mentioned above has lived at the dorm in summer and chose to move out before Sept, which allows you to have virtual visit.
anyhow, wish you all good luck, with application and house-hunting.

Thanks for the advice. Actually I think that both the three guys I mentioned (A., S. and E.) lived first on campus and then moved to the city late August. Any news from them by the way...?
