Tax LLM -- Do I have a chance at any of these?

jln102984

I am top 40 percent at a school ranked 50-60 depending on the year with an A- average in tax classes. I clerked for my state's AG's office in the tax division while in law school and am currently (and have been for the past year and a half) working for a Big 4 accounting firm. I had a 4.0 in accounting in undergrad (doubt this will help but including it anyway). I was published for my case comment on a tax case, and I participated on a moot court team and journal while in law school.

Will my GPA completely take me out of consideration for UF or GULC? I'm considering there, Northwestern, Miami, and Boston. Personal experiences or thoughts greatly appreciated!

Hi Jin102984,

Judging from your profile, I think you have a shot in those universities, but you really need to make sure that your recommendation letters are strong, and your SOP is very convincing to the graduate admission panel.

I only applied to one uni in Tax LLM, which is UW, since I have a relatives there, and I got accepted early even though i sort of miss the early notification admission by one day. I really think that my business undergrad helps me a lot in getting a place. I dunno, it's just my random guess :)

Try not to underestimate yourself, apply wherever you what to study, and see how it goes. Maybe the graduate admission panels see something in you that you overlook. Good luck!

Ps. My profile is quite similar to yours, but I don't have accounting degree; it's just a Business degree in Marketing with a slightly lower GPA, and a barrister at law in my country.
