Hi you all,
I have recently been accepted to the LLM Tax program at Northwestern University and was wondering who everybody else has been...
My thoughts are that all the admitted applicants might get together (online) to talk about the admmissions proccess from there on.
Good luck and congratulations to everybody!!!

Hi, I also have an admission offer to Northwestern LLM in Taxation, and Boston University has also approved my admission. I am a lawyer from Mexico and my intend to work for the ITS (International Tax Services) department of an accounting firm or law firm.
You guys think I should take Northwestern?
in the other hand, if admitted by Florida, should I take Florida instead of Northwestern? I like Floridas curriculum for LLM in Int Taxation very much!

Florida is better ranked than NU (#2 and #4, respectively). In addition to that, they have great professors there (McDaniel, Lokken)... However, it is possible that NU has more prestige in your home country... It´s quite a dilemma...

Thank you Ivan,
I do know that Northwestern University has an outstanding reputation, but I don´t think many more people here in Mexico are really aware of that! so according to your message, I should pick Florida (if admitted of coarse!!)

It is hard to say. I think it depends a lot of what you want to do after the LLM. On the one hand, NU has a lot of prestige abroad - more than Florida -; on the other hand, in the US job market a Florida Tax LLM is probably regarded as more valuable, as Florida is better ranked than NU. It´s sometimes tough to find the right balance between academic prestige x international prestige. Last year, for instance, I was admitted at Georgetown (#3) and Florida (#2), and I had a similar dilemma. If I had to choose among both universities, I would probably pick Georgetown due to its international prestige and its alumni network. But I knew it made no sense to choose Columbia (one of the most prestigious universities in the world) over any of these universities because Columbia is not regarded as particularly good in tax law (they are great in a lot of areas, but perhaps it is not the best place to study tax law). I am sorry I can´t give you a clear advice on that, but it´s a very complex decision. Suerte!

Since I was admitted to the LLM/Kellog Program, I would like to know if the business certificate from Kellog would make a difference to get a job afterwards. Do you know?

Hello, my thoughts on NWU are two fold. First, the program is young and has already commanded a ranking of #4. I believe that as time progresses, this will only increase. Second, NWU has a wonderful reputation in the Chicago area. The general business community looks very keenly at a NWU degree.

Take into account that if you are a foreign-trained attorney, you will not be able to sit for the Illinois bar exam, and your job search will probably take place in NYC (where you can sit for the Bar Exam). And in NYC, law firms may be more sympathetic towards the #3 than the #4... I am not saying the NWU/ Kellogg won´t be a great program - but if your goal is to land of job in the US, maybe you should take what I said into account.
