I have searched through linkedin for profiles of stanford llm graduates that went on to work for big law firms (globally, not just US) as associates (not legal assistants, etc) after graduation.....but I found little. Most are working as in house counsel. So I was wondering, is this situation the result of:

a) choice -- stanford llm grads do not prefer big law, or

b) those who went on to big law are substantial, but they just don't have/don't update linkedin accounts, or

c) my search method was inaccurate.

What do you all think?

Since I have too much nervous energy as I await decisions, I have thoroughly searched through linkedin for profiles of stanford llm graduates that went on to work for big law firms (globally, not just US) as associates (not legal assistants, etc) after graduation.....but I found none. In comparison, such profiles were abundant for harvard, columbia, penn, nyu llm grads.

So I was wondering, is this situation the result of:

a) choice -- stanford llm grads do not prefer big law, or

d) stanford llm grads are in less demand by big corporate law firms than harvard, columbia, penn, nyu llm grads?

I do know LL.Ms from Stanford working at big law. Most got them through previous connections (though a few did through applications).

Most of these people were CGP/LST/ IELBP.

It’s easier to land a job with connections from back home, irrespective of your LLM uni.

As to comparisons, all programs at Stanford take 15 students, so you are bound to find less of them.

Finally, inhouse bound may be due to preference (or bar requirements, I don’t know). Who knows. Have you tried reaching out to them?
