Does anyone know whether a South African 4 year LLB (the SA legal system being a hybrid system of English Common law and Roman-Dutch Law) would make me eligible to write the NY bar or CA bar?
Responses most appreciated.

YES! I came to CA from South Africa 3 years ago and was allowed to write the CA bar ... I've also subsequently written the NY Bar but in NY they require you to have completed an LLM degree before you can sit for the exam. I passed both of them!
I did my LLM first since I knew nothing of US law and didn't feel comfortable writing the exam .... so it can be done!!

I studied at UCT and worked as a prosecutor for 10 years before coming to USA. I got a scholarship to do an LLM at Golden Gate University in SF and decided to grab the opportunity ... and I'm still here:)) I did a year of articles in Cape Town and then went to the school for legal practice so I managed to write the bar exam there before I left.
Are you still studying and what are your plans for coming to the US?
