Shortlist

Judge&Jury

While awaiting admissions (or refusal) from higher rank schools, I am currently putting up a shortlist, among others. My list includes Georgetown U (IBEL #14th), Boston U (Banking/Financial Law #20)), and Duke (Gen LLM with concentration in Business Law #10). I need to accept at least one and make a deposit soonest. I thinks its necessary to ready and positiom oneself while awaiting the decisions from higher rank schools. I am into corporate and finance law practice and would certainly appreciate your inputs.

Definitely Duke, not just because of rankings...

better course offering, journals, corporate law centers etc, reputation and prestige to employers.....

On the downside, NC would not be my favourate place to live.... But I hear DC's a real shit hole. Other than the city center with admin buildings, the surounding suburbs are gehttos with crime problems (Just what I hear, never been.)

Boston's pretty cool though, but if your not into the frat boy culture, you might not be a fan.

What other schools are you waiting on? I'm prob going to Penn....

Boston U's internship is catchy as it gives early exposure to almost actual american workplace, and with Boston, surely you can meet contacts around the world. Duke is a fine and well ranked school which is like 50% of the consideration, but I wonder who will we meet at Durham community in terms of future international contacts. Georgetown has a long history and valid international reputation though its IBEL program is really very new but I intend to mix it with certificate in National Security Law. It's kinda hard to choose, Dukes business school is better ranked too against BU's and Georgetown's (for cross-discipline). Help please

I would not hesitate one second, I'd choose Georgetown over BU and Duke. Duke is a great university but, in my humble opinion, better for undergrads and those who like campus/small town life. Honestly, it's just impossible to argue that NC is better than DC is terms of networking and opportunities. I disagree with Mr. Easter about DC. It's in a very nice and safe part of the city, easily accessible by metro and moreover, DC is a lot of fun. Of course you have gettos and all that, but you just don't go there.

Many partners at top firms told me they saw Georgetown as a top national and international school. For BU, I think it's very good, especially in banking, but Georgetown has a clear edge for reputation and recognition.

Duke is good but I would never choose it over GULC or BU. For law school and grad school, I really believe the location and the network you can build are very important.

Anyway, hope it can help a little. Again, Duke and BU are great schools too...!

Thanks JF for the reply. However, as may be gleaned from my other posts, the situations has dramtocally changed. I declined Duke's offer and will be choosing BU over Georgetown coz I received significant scholarship from BU.
