old vs. new letters of recommendation

I was woundering if anyone can give me some advice regarding letters of recommendations. I applied last year for a couple of llm programs and I am planning to re-apply this year. I had good letters of recommendations from my professors, however I wasn't accepted to any of the school I applied to. I think it was a combination of average grades and my personal statment.

So when applying this year, is it taboo to use the same letters of recommendation or should I seek new ones instead? will it ruin my chances of getting accepted?

I wish I could be more helpful to you. Recently, I found myself wondering about the same question too. I am applying for a LLM program this year, so in case I dont get accepted, I will be reapplying next year. I spent a lot of time and nerves in contacting the people and collecting the recommendations. So it would be a pity if I cannot use them again next year. Lets see if other people apply to your question.

Btw, why dont you try to contact the schools that you applied last year and ask abt their reapplication procedure? I know that Columbia, for example, keeps most of their records from a previous year. Good luck!
