NYU vs Georgetown

Hi all,

First time posting here but I am facing a huge dilemma. I come from Greece with 4 years working experience at a Big4. I have been admitted to both NYU's International Tax LL.M. and in GULC's LL.M. in Taxation. I have received no financial aid from NYU and a USD 45,000 scholarship from GULC. I would like to receive your insights before I make my final decision. My financial situation enables me to afford both programs, but I cannot simply overlook the scholarship from GULC. My ultimate goal is to find a job in a big US Law Firm either in NY or London. Although what I hear is that NYU is the way to go for NY Big Law, I wonder whether the difficulty in finding a job in the US for foreign students should make me go to GULC. What are your thoughts?

Many thanks in advance! Every opinion is very much appreciated.

Hello my friend, if we are talking about jobs after, there are really so many opportunities possible after an LLM at Georgetown and even more with the Tax program. Best place to be is Georgetown especially for foreign students!

I cannot repeat enough. Plus, that scholarship will help also so much more! Congratulations!

GULC 2023 Tax LLM grad here. I'm biased to GULC naturally so I'd say DC/GULC for a 100 reasons I won't go into now. However, that being said, BigLaw from GULC, at least in the USA, for foreign trained lawyers, is not a common exit route and I dont know that your odds are better at NYU. There are are 2 recent tax LLM grads/foreign trained lawyers from GULC in the last 3 years I'm aware of that got biglaw and 1 lasted a year and then went to EY. In terms of other options, I don't think going NYU full price will be worth it. In short, do you want to pay full price for a marginally (in theory) better chance at biglaw? I wouldn't.
