Hi everyone,
I received my offer from NYU for the LLM in International Legal Studies a couple of days ago and my welcome pack arrived this morning.
There was no mention of any financial aid / scholarships being awarded in my pack. I rang the department this morning and they said that if this was the case then I probably wasn't awarded anything.
I can't really afford the $48,000 for the year out of my own savings...does anyone have any advice?
I've also had an offer from the University of Oxford which I could afford to go to for the year, but this is conditional on my obtaining a first overall in my degree which may be risky...
All advice welcome!

Is requesting a deferral an option for you, i.e. do you think it would be possible to obtain funding from your home country? It would cost you $ 500 now which would be wasted if you can't go next year.
My advice would be to leave money aside for a moment: Which course would you chose then? Also bear in mind that NYC and Oxford are very different in terms of lifestyle and teaching. Reputation isn't everything. Just because people who probably never followed either of these programmes think that one is better than the other, doesn't mean that this programme is actually better for you.
If your choice regardless of finance would be NYU, think again: Is it worth the extra cost? And with "worth it", I don't just mean financially. If your answer is yes, go for it! You got admitted, so I'm sure you'll find a way to attend if you really want to.
All the best!

Good points raised. I have a more complicated personal situation too in that my fiancée won't want me to spend a year in NYC plus she wouldn't be able to come with me. But that's aside from this point...
I would be happy at Oxford (I've been told the BCL is the best internationally-regarded postgraduate degree in the world). Also that if I wanted knowledge to go to Cambridge and if I wanted methodology go to NYU.
Requesting a deferral for NYU wouldn't work either because they wouldn't give it to me just for not having the money, would they? I understood deferrals to be given only in cases of really bad health or a bereavement.
I'm still waiting to hear from Cambridge and Harvard though so will re-evaluate then.

Hi everyone, been reading for a while but didn't join until now. Just so you know, I don't think anyone should be losing hope just yet. I applied for the Traditional LLM and just got my acceptance e-mail today. I'm from Brazil, btw.
