Doesn't seem we have much of a chance to find a good job right now in NY.

So... Is it a good year to study an LLM and hope the crisis will be over when we get to the NY job market next year? Or should we desperetly hang to our current job and never let it go?

You still have 1,5 years before you enter the job market. Don't lose your faith.

An astute poster named "NYlawyer" posted in the UK/Ireland forum under a thread about international reputation of universities. That poster might be able to give you an up-to-date perspective on New York's legal market.

On the contrary, I believe it will get much worse.

One year later, job prospects are looking slightly better. DLA Piper has raised associate pay to pre-recession levels across all US offices: http://www.biglaw.org/news/show/3124/dla-piper-raises-pay-to-pre-recession-levels

The legal sector in the US is still in decline, but things are improving in the last months:

http://www.biglaw.org/news/show/3086/us-legal-sector-still-in-decline

I'm pretty confident that in 2011 the job market will have completely recovered.

Good luck to everyone graduating this summer!
