Minnesota..

Hello..all

I write this post to ask you for any information on Minnesta LLM. Now I'm still on the way of choosing my shool among Minnesota, NYU, Cornell, NW.

Actually my No 1 choice has been NYU, but the class of it is too huge and a living in the big city can give me pros and cons together, Recently my thought is slightly changing toward the side of just enjoying the new-country life away from my stressful hard work for several years. That is another important reason why I severly consider MNLS.

I heard MN is one of the greatest places to live in. But the problem is the weather of winter, about which what I heard is too cold to endure and too much snow to enjoy. Moreover, I'm not pretty sure the quality of LLM of MN.

Please feel free to advise me any of information on MN or other school such as NYU, Cornell, NW. I would appreciate any and all from you.

Thank you very much !! Have a good day.

Now I'm declined to be sure MNLS is not such a popular school...hh.

What area of law are you interested in studying? Minnesota has a very good J.D. program, although it is not as well regarded as those of NYU, Cornell or Northwestern. I don't know whether UM offers a general LLM or a specialized one, and thus really can't give much advice on the LLM program at all, but the J.D. program is great. Minnesota would be a great choice if you hope to get a job in the Midwest after graduation. Internationally, however, Minnesota doesn't have the same level of prestige as do the other schools, so if your hope is to land a job in your home country (which is where, exactly?) or elsewhere, Minnesota may not be the best choice.
If, however, you already have a job to return to after graduation, Minnesota might be a great place to go - if you can handle the cold, that is. Minneapolis is a very fun city - it has enough culture and nightlife that you can really make of it what you want. You may have to dig a little deeper to find cool things to do than you would in NYC or Chicago, but it will be a lot more fun than Ithaca, NY, that is for sure, and just as warm. Summer and spring are wonderful - if you like boating, waterskiing, fishing, or just relaxing on a lake, Minnesota is the best. Winter is indeed cold, and you will spend most of it indoors studying, drinking or both. The pace is not too hectic and the people are very friendly, although not exceptionally diverse. In short, it will provide you with an excellent education and a very "American" experience, but probably won't be as helpful for getting a job outisde of the Midwest. Good luck on your applications!

I attended MNLS for my J.D. and NYU for my Tax LL.M.

If your going into Tax and you got into NYU, unless you already have a job lined up, you should go to NYU. It's the best program regardless of what anyone may say. The faculty is remarkable. The program is very challenging.

If you are looking to move to the country, then I don't know why you would choose MNLS. It's in the center of a 2 mil+ metropolitan area. The city is great, however. The winter sucks, but I found it worse to be walking in the cold in NYC than driving a car in the snow. But if you are really looking to slow down for a couple of years, move to the south.

Good luck
