Michigan-still a chance?

whatiwant

I have not hear anything form Umich and the secretary keep telling me that there are still some files under reviewing.

I have heard that some one from my country-China, had just received the hard copy of rejection...

Do I still have a chance? Or is there an email of rejection before the hard copy??

Thank you:)

No need to panic. A colleague of mine got admission from Michigan in April last year. Hopefully you would apprecitate the fact there are indeed a great more applicants for top schools, most of whom are as outstanding as you are; this is a game for you as well as the schools.

I think you may write to admission office if your background looks terrific, eg. stellar GPA>3.6/4, scholarly work, 5+ PQE with top firms all along etc. I see no point if you meet the criteria as such (particularly in academic fields) yet with no information from Michigan so far.

Well...I don't think I meet the standard you have listed above...so I do believe that I have been rejected...

Not necessarily true. Perhaps you are a variable, meaning not necessarily the one Michigan is eager for admission/offer, but please don't freak out as no news indicates they consider you a backup in case the admitted turn them down. This is true with respect to any schools, I suppose. Good luck.

So now, should I just write to them?

well...definitely your call. I have an one-sided arguement to calm you. If you do that you can expect a rejection, which is contrary to your intention anyway; if you don't you can wait for the chance to knock at your door, which costs your time and patience. Also, if you are current employed you will lose nothing; if you are unlucky you can write something, I think, which helps to make decision and prepare for your trip.

@whatiwant, I'm also from China and also still waiting for the news, so you are not alone.

@knight, do you mean that we'd better just quietly wait for further notice from the school rather than calling them up or writing them letters? I'm wondering whether I just give them a quick phone call to check the status. You think doing so would harm my application?

There is no gurantee that a phonecall will not harm you because many schools understand you are pressed for the deadline of other schools that have admitted you, and thus might reject you if you are indeed on the waiting list and stand smaller chance of the second round. Also, considering the ridiculously huge applicants body, please be realistic about being accepted by top schools once waitlisted. My personal thoughts.

What about financial aid? Did anyone hear from them in this regard? I am still waiting. My decision will depend on financial aid!
thanks.

Thanks and I guess you r right. I decided to just wait patiently. If I'm supposed to get it I will get it in the end... Thanks again.
