LSAC LLM Credential Assembly Service

Cetinkaya

Does anyone have an idea about the necessity of LSAC? As far as I could understand their web-site, they collect transcripts, verify them and deliver such to applied law school with TOEFL scores.

Although I am applying to 5 law schools in US and every law schools at least recommends LSAC, I cannot see the reason why I should pay USD 180 instead of obtaining 5 transcripts and sending TOEFL score myself.

Any comments or ideas are very much appreciated.

Hi Cetinkaya,

I am not sure which schools you are applying into. for example, some schools require their foreign graduated applicants use LLM LSAC Service, for example NYU. If this is not the case, then you can just submit your paperwork direcly to the school. And I completely agree abt paying additional $180.00!!! Its expensive and not much worth it. Good luck!

Hey.. I dont think that it is essential to use LSAC for NYU too.. Please clarify,.. They say they require but later they say that a student may not use the LSAC...
The extract form the website: http://www.law.nyu.edu/llmjsd/graduateadmissions/howtoapply/completingyourapplication/index.htm
"NYU School of Law is unable to provide a reduction of the fee for the LSAC Credential Assembly Service. Those applicants with foreign education credentials for whom the fee represents a significant financial burden may submit the transcript form, official transcripts (and translations, if required) and documentation of class rank directly to the Office of Graduate Admissions."

Doesn't that mean that LSAC is not essential????

Hey tallking,

I guess you're right. I missed that part assuming that LLM LSAC Service is required as it stated in some other parts of the admission info. I found NYU website a little confusing sometimes 'cause there are few other aspects of hte admission procedure (dont exactly remember which ones) that are worded quite differently from each other. Probably its just because they are redirecting their web site. Anyways, thanks a lot for an update and best of luck to you!

I just called the NYU Graduate Admissions office. The person I talked to confirmed that applicants with foreign legal backgrounds are obliged ! to use the Law School Admission Councils (LSAC) Credential Assembly Service.
