LLM Transcripts and LSAC

anna75

Hey everyone!

I am a French student, and I plan on doing a LLM in the US in 2011-2012. I ve already looked at the application requirements and I have few questions about transcripts.

Do you know where I could send my diplomas and 'releves de notes' so as to get an official translation that wouldn't be too expensive?

How should they translate the different distinctions: graduate summa cum laude, valedictorian, or 1st class, etc.?

If I use the LSAC services, do I need to do those translations? Does it have to be official as well?

If anyone has already used the LSAC services, can you explain how it works exactly?

Thanks a lot everyone!

You have to open your account. Have your school registrar send LSAC your transcripts. You can do the translation by yourself or anyone else. It doesn't need to be official (just word for word). If you are done with the translation, send it to LSAC along with your diploma. That's what I did before entering my llm program last year and LSAC did the evaluation and therefore sent the info to requested schools. I am not sure on graduate summa cum laude. As far I know they use this sort of classifications: Superior, Above average, average, ect...
I hope this will help.
P.S. If you have more questions, fell free to contact me at ibcoul@hotmail.com

Thanks a lot for your quick response.
Actually, I have already translated my transcripts myself, and I found an official translator for my diplomas.

I may send you an email if I have more questions coming up whilst I go through all the application steps ;-)

Hi everybody

I have just read your message Anna, and could you tell me the name of your translator. I am French too and my university doesn't want to translate my diploma and grade sheet. Is it ok if I translate it myself? How did you do for your grade?

It would be very helpful
Cheers

Salut Alienor,

Ca va dépendre de ton université. Certaines acceptent une traduction faite par toi, et la vérifient. D'autres non, et demandent une traduction assermentée. Tu perds donc un des avantages du LSAC, qui est de ne pas payer le prix d'une traduction.

Envoie-moi un PM si tu veux plus d'infos!

Hi Guys

I have a quick question regarding the LSAC service. I have created an account with LSAC and have requested for all my transcripts to be sent to LSAC.

Unfortunately, I was not aware it would take 10 business days for transcripts to arrive at LSAC (and LSAC cannot provide an assessment even though the transcripts for my first law degree has arrived).

Can someone let me know how long does LSAC take to generate a credential analysis report upon receipt of ALL transcripts and also how long do they usually take to disseminate reports to schools which have requested for them?

Any insights please?

As soon as the LSAC receives all your transcripts, it starts the evaluation. Then, it should take 10 business day to generate a credential analysis...

I don't know why you think your transcripts "would take 10 business days to arrive at LSAC". If you use regular mail, from Europe to the US, it should take 3, 4 business days. If you send them via courier, it should take no more than 2 business days.

Lastly, as long as you sent your transcripts to the LSAC before December 1 (if it is the deadline), there should be no problem. The universities usually ask for the report a few days after, and then it should take 2-3 business days to be received.

Hi!
I have a question regarding this issue. I studied my LLB in one University and completed a Diploma in another. So, I have two sealed envelopes to be sent to LSAC. However, I do not know if I can sent these envelopes by courier mail together and put my adress or, instead, those envelopes must be sent by each university including their contact information on the courier envelope?

Tranks,

You may mail them together as long as the envelops are sealed by your university.

Hi everyone,

I have sent my first law degree (completed in a French university) grade sheets along with the translation to LSAC.

They are now telling me on the website that they have completed my evaluation and that I do not meet the minimum requirements for a first degree in law. But I did complete my first degree (I am now doing a master in Business law)!
My final grades are over 10/20 (French grading system is over 20) which clearly shows I have passed my exams.

Did anyone get the same thing? Shoud I have converted the grades into the US grade system myself? Or is there other documents that I should have sent?
