LLM and foreign lawyers

res

Hello-
I know this topic has been brought earlier. I am aware of the CA situation, about allowing international bar admitted attorneys. Does anyone know if one has gotten a distant learning LLB from UK, and is admitted and practicing attorney, they are able to move over to other states. Especially, I am interested in knowing about Virginia, MD, DC and the east coast states. I have family there and I would like to settle in that area. Any help would be great.

Hi, I am looking for a state that a UK qualified attorney can get a law license without a obtaining an LLM in the states. The UK attorney did not obtain a UK law degree during undergrad but did it through a conversion program and then a masters in law in the UK. The UK attorney practiced in the UK for approximately 7 years.

Does NY allow UK qualified attorneys who did the conversion certificate in law and masters in law to sit for the bar? Are they any other states other than California? Thanks

Hello Icoho,

If NY is the State in question then you can send in your qualifications for the NY Bar Examiners Board for evaluation - they will let you know your eligibility...

This would be the more reliable source of information!

Cheers,
G
