HI there!
I just wanted to see if there is anyone out there accepted to the LL.M./Kellogg program at Northwestern University. I heard the class size for this particular program is from 10 to 20 every year and it's really hard to come across an alumni or a prospective student of the program. It'd be great to exchange information pertaining to the program itself and the kind of opportunities after the program.
FYI, i was accepted to LL.M./Kellogg as of Dec. 19th, 2008

Hey Bayern,
My app. was completed on Oct. 26th. I had my interview on Nov. 3rd. So it took 7 weeks, give or take a few days, for them to come to a decision from the interview. If your interview went smoothly, I think you could expect a decision at or around early or mid Feb. I know it's tough but hang in there!
BTW, apart from the info on NU law website, are you aware of any inside info about the LLM-K program? (i.e. employment rate in the US) or the portfio of LLM-K graduates?
I'm shooting to join a US consulting firm or IB rather than a law firm with my LLM-K (NY bar) and CFA.

It is really an expensive program....almost USD 85,000...
Posted Jan 08, 2009 10:20
I agree. This program is too expensive and may not give you expected advantage on job seeking.
Posted Jan 08, 2009 12:02
I know what you mean. That's exactly why I'm trying to figure out if the cost is worthwhile. As much as I'm excited to be accepted, I might keep my options open. Furthermore, they explicitly stated that no fellowships or scholarships are offered to LLM/Kellogg applicants.
A realistic alternative would be WashU in St. Louis. Plus, there's a good chance that I may get a full scholarship and a generous amount of living expense from WashU. WashU also provides an opportunity to transfer to JD easily. (84/100 and above)
My collegues are telling me that I would be crazy to choose WashU over NU LLM/Kellogg. After all, it's KELLOGG...(But then again, it's just a certificate, not an MBA)
I guess it's either...
LLM/Kellogg... or WashU (possible JD) + full scholarship and living expense.
or... some other LLM program that's ranked higher than NU LLM/Kellogg. i.e.NYU, UPenn or Harvard. Frankly, I think I already got the best admission i can get in terms of law school ranking.

Hi bCoool,
First of all, Congrats!! This is a very competitive program.
I am from Brazil, applied on November and interviewed on December. I applied to the general program and I just want to have an idea about the decision timing.
I know a lot of LLMs, JDs and Kellogg students, since I am living in Chicago and my husband is a Kellogg student. I'll try get the specific info that you need and write you back.
Best.

Dear LLM CAz,
Thank you for your kind note. I would very much look forward to your feed-back. I'm in desperate need of information regarding the LLM/Kellogg program itself and employment persepctives afterwards.
As for your app., I think you can expect a decision around 6~8 weeks from your interview. I'm sure you'll do fine. Just hang in there.

Any news from NU? LLM/Kellogg?
Posted Jan 21, 2009 18:03
i have my interview on 26th of Jan. ..
Posted Jan 21, 2009 18:32
Is it really cost $ 85000 ?
Posted Jan 21, 2009 18:34
Yup. I'm sure it's going to be worth it, though... or at least I hope so.
Posted Jan 21, 2009 18:40
So what is the interview all about?
Posted Jan 21, 2009 20:42
The program looks wonderful. But when I discovered that they don't grant scholarships, I forgot about it.
Posted Jan 22, 2009 07:57
So what is the interview all about?
From my experience, they asked very general questions such as why I wanted to study at a US law school, in particular Northwestern Law School. They also asked me if there was any specific reason in chosing Chicago. The rest of the questions were pretty much based on my resume. Although the interviewer clearly stated that the interview is conducted prior to any review or evaluation of my application material except for my resume, I think I would be helpful to be ready to answer questions concerning your personal statements. They're really nice so don't worry too much. I'm sure it will be a enjoyable 30 minutes or so.

My interview for the genearl LLM program is almost the same. I was interviewed on Dec. 6 2008 and got the admission on Jan. 16 2009. Is there anyone admitted to the general LLM program at NU?
