I just want to give you some comparison between China and most of other sountries on the qualification of being a practice lawyer---
In most of the countries, to be eligible to become a lawyer, or judge, etc, you need to have a degree in law, like LLB/JD, and then you have the qualification to pass the bar exam and then become a certified lawyer...
While in China, things are different: You can take the bar exam even if you do not have a LLB from law school! Only if you can pass the exam, then you can have the licence and have the qualification to practice law ... Strange huh!? But believe me, it is not easy to pass it, even some of the people have master degrees in law can not pass it although they have prepared it for several years!

interesting. why then do you need any degree in law in China? just for general knowledge? no practical use?
Is it the same way in Taiwan and Hong Kong?

Hi Smartguy: HongKong is different from mailand China, if u want to practise in HK bar, firstly, you should get a LL.B degree,.secondly, you should take one year course of PCLL. Untill last year, only two universities in HK offer the LL.B degree, the HKU and the City University of HK,and only HKU offer the PCLL course.
I have a question to ask you: in your opinion, for a foreign attorney planning to get a LLM in US, which kind of LLM Program will make them more easier to find a job in US, What is your comment on Tax compare to Corporate? Thanks a lot!

To tell you the truth, many American attorneys are not aware much of LLM existence. If you don't have JD it doesn't matter where your earned your advanced degree. My bet is if you passed the bar exam here and have enough knowledge to in the filed of your potential employment whether with LLM or not, you have high chances to find a job. You just have to be good in your field. At least better than other JD applicants.
