How should we deal with the waiting list?

Hi, Guys~

Have you ever been place on the waiting list? How should we deal with the waiting list to increase the possiblities to be accepted?

Let's share our ideas!!

By the way, I am now on the waiting list of Upenn. Since my boyfriend will go to Johns hopkins, I really want to go to Upenn. So please!!! If there is any one who will not go to Upenn, please decline it as soon as possible. Thanks so much!!

I think we just have to wait :
-they can't tell us how many seats will be available, because they simple don't know yet.
-they can't tell us our position relative to other, because I think they don't know, or I should say they haven't classified us. Let me explain : they have a wait list. Each time someone deny the offer, they probably see the whole list to take the guy who will fit the best in the new seat. That doesn't mean the best applicant.

For example, let's say they have offered admission to 3 guys from China and 3 from Brazil.
2 guys from China finally deny the offer.
They can't give the 2 seats to 2 other Brazilians, even if thos 2 are the strongest applicants in the Wait List. This would be unbalanced in the class, compared to other countries.

There are not only the country criteria, there may be the experience or academic criteria. They want (as all university) the LLM class to be heterogenous, with mixed backgrounds and experiences, some diversity, etc.

So, at each denial, they see through the whole Wait List which one would fit the best.

==> But all that is just my personal guess, I'm not sure at all, but that's how I feel it's like !

So I don't think we need to mail them. As they said on their email, if we are not interested in waiting, we can withdraw our application. As long as we don't, they know our interest !

And from the posts in the previous years : they give admissions to waitlisted people in May, and final rejection in June.
So they take the whole April month to decide which waitlisted would have an admission, because they probably try to find out who will fit the best in the new seats, as I've mentionned above !

So we just have to be patient :(

Thanks for all the ideas from you guys!! You are so kind to offer me a hand. To be honesty, I do not know whether what I am doing works, but I just try my best.

Good luck to everyone who are still on the waiting list!

hey masterkelly,

I most probably will decline the offer of UPenn. You can take my slot. :)

Hi Masterkelly,

Now that Harvard has begun to send their admissions offers, for sure many people admitted to HLS will withdraw offers from good schools (Upenn, NYU, etc).

I'm also on the wait list of Upenn, as well of Cornell. I heard that Upenn will contact the wait listed applicants on the beginning of April! Let's keep the hope!

Let's keep our fingers crossed. I have two deadlines from other school, both of which are in the early April. Hope I can be accepted before those deadlines.
