How much funding to consider an LLM?

LolaMarie

Hello!

I have been researching ways to fund my LLM during the past few weeks, and I was wondering if it was worth pursuing this adventure if I already know I won't be able to pay more than $20k from my personal funds? I would have to receive a scolarship from the school and grants from various institutions (Fulbright and more) to get the $115k I need, which seems quite impossible or at least very uncertain. Private loans are not my first option because I will most likely return to my home counry after completing my LLM and I'm afraid my salary won't be sufficient to cover the loan and my expenses.

I know my question is a little naive and I apologize for that, but I'd really like to know if other people in my situation have, by some miracle, managed to obtain the funds they needed when it seemed very unlikely?

Many thanks :)

I do not know exactly how much you need for your program since each LL.M. programs and living costs are varried. You can look for a cheaper program, especially in public universities such as state schools. However, most of the top law schools are private. If you want to work in the States, I'd suggest you look for some locally prestigious law schools instead.

If not, you can consider law schools in the UK for alternatives.

Thank you for your answer. I am not necessarily interested in top law schools, but I am specialized in the entertainment industry so I'm not sure state schools offer as many classes as UCLA or NYU do, but I'll make sure to check just in case!

Interesting, I would say LA should be a good starting point where you can look up for state law schools around the industry, Hollywood.
