Does anyone know how many applications Harvard receives for the LLM and how many admits they give out?

As I understand it, in a typical year (and bear in mind that, with the recession, this is not a typical year (and that may be even more true of next year)) Harvard receives around 1500 applications, and has an intake of 150 students. As for the number of offers it makes, this information is not made public (for understandable reasons).

I dont know how many accepted candidates decline the offer, but I believe that they made a few more offers than 150.

I have heard about people that were accepted at Yale and then decline the HLSs offer. It will make sense for me that people that have been accepted at both law schools prefer Yale, and some people could prefer Standford as well.

Another example (in theory) of people that could decline HLSs offer are those who had been admitted in good law schools (Berkeley, Penn, NYU etc.) with scholarship.

Therefore, maybe Harvard will issue 170 offers, bearing in mind that 10 would prefer Yale and other 10 could prefer other law schools (SLS, NYU etc.)

I read somewhere that 80% of JDs accepted to both YLS and HLS choose the former. I guess the same more or less goes for LLMs.

I believe that 1.500 is a ridiculously low figure. Columbia has received far more than 1.600 to 1.700 - and we all know that every LLM applicant on this planet adds Harvard to the list while "at it", as unrealistic as it seems.

I didn't. The chances of being selected were just too slim to waste an other 100$ :p

Porbably the main reason why they require a different, longer and more sophisticated Personal Statement - so that "bandwagon jumpers" are scared away :)

"Ridiculously low" it may be, but it is - as I recall - what they posted on their own website at the time I applied. As it happens I think a great many LLM applicants do not apply to Harvard: simply because they imagine it to be a waste of their time. I don't claim to know for sure though, so you may well be right that it is significantly higher.

Congratulations!!! It really is a great news. Seems my chance is slim. But will go on the next year. Really hope they've not yet released all decisions....

Btw, does anyone know if Harvard would send out the formal rejection letter, via mail or e-mail, to those who're not that lucky to be on their AD list?

Hi,

Could you please share a bit about you credentials and background and schooling information, just so I can get an idea what my range is, thank you.
