Does anyone know the likelihood of admission for an American student at Harvard for the LLM to prepare for a career in law teaching? Are there statistics on US JDs being admitted in prior years?

Also, would American JDs mind sharing, generally, their credentials, i.e., JD tier school, journal membership, work experience, publishing, clerking, etc.?

I graduated in top 5% of undergrad, top 10% of tier 1 law school, and I have been working at an AM Law 200 law firm for 6 1/2 years.
I was not on a journal in law school, but I have had an article published.
I guess I have an A- resume.
How about you?

Thanks for sharing. I graduated summa from undergrad, have a graduate degree in a field other than law, graduated top 20% from tier 1, work experience at a Vault60 firm, federal clerkship experience, was on journals and a law review editor, and have several publications. It's hard to gauge what they're looking for.
What are you interested in doing with an LLM? Have you applied to any other schools?

Yes, I applied to 4 other schools: UCLA, NYU, Columbia, and Berkeley.
I would like to study legal theory and increase my writing experience.

Does an Amercian JD need an LLM to teach law in an amercian law school ? (even if this is a theoretical minimum)

No, an American JD does not need an LLM. Many feel that an LLM will not even help you get a teaching position, but you do need writing experience.

Thanks - this explains how Obama taught constitutional law at Chicago after his JD.

It is true that you do not need an LLM to teach, but does anyone know how Harvard views applicants who already have significant writing experience both in terms of publishing in journals and writing decisions while clerking? Is there such a thing as "too much" experience? Are there any other American JDs who have clerked?
