Though it's not a good feeling..it's nice they give you a feedback on what are your weakenesses..or I wonder if they just tell everybody that...

Guys..I am wondering if this is a standard text they send to everybody to get people to spend 80 extra dollars or I should bother to reapply, if that's the case. Can y'all tell me if this text appears on your letters? tkx

Thank you for your interest in Columbia Law Schools LL.M. Program. We regret to inform you that the Admissions Committee has reviewed your application and concluded that we are unable to offer you admission to the 2011-2012 program. We were very impressed with your academic credentials and therefore hope that you will consider reapplying next year, after you have gained additional law-related work experience.

Dear dggc, do not look down on this letter...even though they might send some outstanding applicants like you by this form, at least it pointed out the only weakness of your file. I think most schools just send one type of letter if they refuse you application. So keep in good faith & good luck!

dggc: I can't comment on whether that is standard text, but they state unequivocally in their admission requirements that strong preference is given to applicants who have had at least one year of work experience after earning their first law degree, waived only in exceptional cases. I agree with the above post - I wouldn't take it as a bad thing!

Guys..don't get me wrong..Yes, i was aware of the admission criteria. it is not a matter of looking down upon the letter. I thought it was great to point out the weakness of my file as I'd said in previous posts..But if that text is sent out to every rejected candidate is has to be weighed accordingly in my calculations...as for keeping the faith..Being rejected is part of the process..I have been admitted to other schools as well

They are very strict on the law-related work experience criteria. A friend of mine had 6 years of work experience (non law related) but it was before he did his law degree (in the UK one can do law as a postgrad, i.e. the Graduate Diploma in Law) and they told him that the work experience had to have been done AFTER his degree.

@dggc, if you really want to go to Columbia you should definitely re-apply once you have legal work experience.

It seems it´s not the standard message. They can either reject you by wishing you "luck in your future endeavors" or encouraging to apply again the following year.

At least that´s how it was last year. I was rejected because of lack of work experience and, after earning some during the past 12 months, I reapplied again and I am now waiting for their decision.

I guess we will soon find out whether that´s true or maybe just a polite way of being rejected.

I'm still waiting too. Has anyone who applied for an International Law/Human Rights oriented LLM heard back from Columbia yet?

I am still waiting too. Take it easy. Our decisions will be released soon. However, Columbia will not change our lives whether we get in or not. Take it easy~
