Columbia LLM | 2019-2020 Applicants

I’m not sure what they are doing. On the portal my status still reads as complete. Does it move to “application is under review” or something before a decision comes? Also my current status date is still the date that I got an email saying my application is complete - I assume that means that they haven’t even started reviewing it.

Exactly the same for me

Hi guys! Anybody applied for the Appel Fellowship? I could barely find previous students that were awarded this. Also anybody from Eastern Europe who received/did not receive a decision?

HI, no news but I am thinking about the expedited decision as well as I have to decide by 1 April about other offers. Am not sure if it is not going to have a negative impact if you push them...

Me too ; I think I'll ask for an expedited decision starting from the 25th of March (if I don't get a reply before that date) ... I also don't know if that'll impact my chances, but according to past posts, I think it could go either way !

I guess it is always a risk but I think that after such a long time I would rather have an answer now than stress at the last minute about the arrangements, especially since I got into law schools in various countries :) I also read somewhere that they asked for expedited decisions after 15th March or something...I mean they cant kill your application just bcs u asked no :D

Hi, so I wrote to Columbia asking if they could provide a tentative timeline for the decisions as most schools offering admissions in the Fall want us to communicate our acceptances by April 1st. They were actually quite understanding about it and sent me a detailed reply telling me that I should apply for an expedited review if I do not have a decision by this week, also gave me all the necessary information about what all the application should include. But they did say that they cannot guarantee that they will be able to give a decision in time. Maybe I am just trying to be optimistic, but it doesn't seem like an expedited review request will likely result in rejection.

Anyway, Good Luck to all those still waiting to hear back, hope we have some relief soon!:)

Perfect! Thanks a lot! Based on what you say, it seems it is fine to ask for an expedited review. Hopefully :)

Just a question, what do you mean by "necessary information about what all the application should include" ? Can you list the elements required ?
Thanks :)

Hi,
I thought it best to just copy-paste whatever they wrote in their email, just in case anyone else also wants to send the application next week. Here it is:

"To request an expedited decision, please send us an email with the following information:

-The official email correspondence from the law school(s) to which you have been accepted, making sure that the decision deadline is clearly visible within the correspondence. You can do this by replying to this email and attaching the offer as a pdf.
-Documentation of any financial aid you may have received, if applicable. The documentation you send should include the dollar amount of your financial aid award.

The Admissions Committee will do its best to get an answer to you before your earliest deadline, but please note that we cannot guarantee that the Admissions Committee will be able to make an expedited decision. Please let us know if you have any further questions."

Hope this helps!

That is interesting...Why do they need to know financial aid received as well...a bit weird no?

I am assuming they are asking for this kind of information to evaluate whether they want to make you an offer. Not too weird from their perspective, but it comes down to whether you want to disclose this kind of information or not

I'm not comfortable with their request to attach the admission(s) that we already got.

because they want to know how much you were offered to match or exceed this, if they want you!
