got waitlisted... (my lsac was "superior", my TOEFL score 105)

Hoping to be admitted later. Although I would prefer a different location, I have to admit that Chicago is a top law school, may be academically more prestigious than other law schools (even better ranked).

Congratulations to all the admitted candidates.

GPA is not mandatory for us.

Almost mandatory are high grades at law school (I graduated magna cum laude) and a very good TOEFL score (I got 105).

Let's see...hoping to have better news from Chicago and other law school...

very strange.. I was accepted last year, they refused to defer me last year and encouraged to apply again this year. so i did. I was at Oxford the intervening time between my acceptance last year and sending the re-app this year. (still am at Ox)

and I was denied.

There's an interesting article in this week's New Yorker about Rankings. Chicago is mentioned with Yale and Harvard.

thanks mikado, I was already looking into this weeks NewYorker, not last weeks. :-)

...Stake's intention is to demonstrate just how subjective rankings are, to show how determinations of "quality" turn on relatively arbitrary judgments about how much different variables should be weighted. For example, his site makes it easy to mimic the U.S.News ranking. All you have to do is to give equal weight to "academic reputation", "LSATs", "ratio", and "faculty law-review publ.", and you get a list of élite schools which looks similar to the U.S.News law-school rankings:

1. Chicago
2. Yale
3. Harvard
4. Stanford
5. Columbia
6. Northwestern
7. Cornell
8. UPenn
9. NYU
10. UC Berkeley
...
Source: The NewYorker, February 14 & 21, 2011, p. 73

There are several other "rankings" where he demonstrates the subjectivity of ranking methodologies and the statistical tweaks.

Quote: "Who comes out on top, in any ranking system, is really about who is doing the ranking". (p.75)

We knew that already, no? :-)
