I am Spanish lawyer, interested in apply to good US law schools (CLS, HLS, NYU, UPenn, Georgetown...). I think have strong academic record (top 5% in my class), two different degrees: one in laws and one in economics, and more than two years of experience working as a corporate and transactional lawyer in one of the top3 law firms in my country. How do you judge my chances of admission in one of such law schools?
Thanxs a lot!!

Dumb question from my end (I know) but are you applying for the LLM or JD program?

Sorry for the lack of information, I am applying for the LL.M., I believed it could be understood from the name of the web ;). Thank you very much for any opinion at this respect! I am excited about being admitted in one of the ivy league schools...

Oh! But you never can really tell you know! You sound so tripped about Ivy league schools and personally I'm trying hard to see what the hype is about. Are you looking for some kind of reassurance on this board? Tell me what to say and I'd say it.

Hello bardiva!! And thanks for your responses. I am not looking any kind of "reassunrance", I am just asking to everybody who could give me some input at this respect (for instance current students, alumni, etc) how difficult it is to be admitted in one of the schools to wich I am applying to and if my credentials (basically what I have told in my first post) may be enough in order to get an admission under normal circumstances (decent personal statemntes and letters of recommendation). Maybe the people actually pursuing an LL.M. in these schools, on the basis of their own background or the background they know abouy their colleagues, may give me some light in this point and about my chances. That's all. I regret and say sorry if my explanation in my prior posts has been confuse...
Thanks again
Thanks again

Truth is, ex facie, you have a good chance of getting into, at least, one of them. Harvard - U'll be competing with other applicants from spain, NYU shld be much easier since they take c.450 llms, Columbia is always a tricky one but your multidisciplinary bckgrd shld always be an edge. Flaunt your transactional credentials and make sure your personal statement has 'purpose'. You shld be more than fine. (Don't disappoint on the toefl tho)
But, I think you should play down on using subjective parameters in assessing yourself. Possible nuances are just too many. Someone with a spanish background would be v.helpful.
Best of luck

As usual Hyugo has kissed the words off my lips!! Do you accept my apologies?
Posted Oct 10, 2005 20:47
Thank you very much hyugo! I'll try to do the best with my personal statement and all the aditional materials requested. Regarding my TOEFL score it is not really good (267 CBT) :(( but I hope it could be enough since it meets with the minimum requirement requested by all the schools which I am applying to. I believe that NYU should possibly be easier due to the large number of applicants they accept. i believe that I have lot of chances also in Georg and Penn, but I am not sure about HLS and CLS.
My law firm is pretty known within some of the commitees due to the large number of alumni working here. I hope it also helps. Thank again guys!!
And of course I accept the apologize! It was my fault!!
