Can I apply after 5th semester grades for Tax LLM?

T502L

hey,

Im a 2L at a top50 (slightly below median grades unfortunately, im better at math than reading apparently...needless to say no 2L summer job yet but people who are top 25% at my school cant get them either...).

my plan was to wait until grades came back in early january and then apply for a tax llm because that is what ive wanted to practice ever since high school...
I saw this site linked from another discussion board and i noticed a lot of you have already applied before you got 5th semester grades? Should i reconsider my plan because of the economy and just plan to apply in october 09 or since assuming im the same (God forbid) am i better off waiting another semester to get 2 more tax courses under my belt....I will have 3 tax courses done by the end of 2L plus estates and trusts.

I know im a long shot for a top 3 barring a good second year and not sure if BU or Northwestern would be worth the money...so i might get an MST and try to get a big 4 job that way instead...

I'm a 3L and have already received acceptances from 2 of the 4 schools I applied to. I'm still in the midst of finals for my 5th semester.

In general, you can't apply more than 1 year in advance of the year you intend to start, much like applying to law school.

However, when the Dean of Northwestern's program came to my school, he explained that you can actually transfer to NU during your third year and finish your JD while starting your LLM. That might be something to consider trying now, if you are so inclined.

And don't worry about the summer job; the market sucks right now for everybody.

Best.

Sorry if i was unclear...(and i definately was looking back) Im talking about applying either in Fall 2009 or Spring 2010 for an LLM spot in Fall 2010...I know its early to worry about it, but a lot of 2Ls are talking up going to LLMs and applying as 3Ls next year and it was my goal from the start (unless i ended up getting law review)

Thats interesting about northwestern but i wouldnt pass up instate tuition for 3L year...
