Any thoughts on BU's graduate tax program? All I really know is that it is ranked 8th by U.S. news. Anyone know their admission standards, job placement stats, etc. Or where I could find this info myself. Practicing in Boston would be great, since that is where I'm from originally.
I'm applying to NYU and Georgetown as well, but it is hard to tell how hard these programs are to get into. I'm not really interested in living or practicing in Chicago or Florida, so I'm leaning towards not applying to either of those schools. I get the sense that as far as how the programs are regarded, NYU is at the top, then there is a far drop to Georgetown and Florida, and then there is a huge drop to the rest of the programs. Any suggestions on where else to apply? Currently living in Virginia and would like to practice in either NY, Boston, DC, or Richmond.

My impression from my own research is that NYU and UF are in a class of their own, followed by a drop down the list to NU, GULC, etc.
I originally was going to apply to the top 10 programs or whatever but my tax prof. suggested it wasn't worth it to apply that far down the list. I took that to mean that the degree wouldnt travel well outside the top few schools.
However, that is based on one professor's recommendation so take that with a grain of salt. I think even if that is true, being from Boston, BU would be a great program that could lead to a good job.
I do wish all the programs would list OCI type statistics similar to those released for JD programs; it'd be nice to know who places well and where, based on more than just third party opinions and anecdotes.
