Hi All!
I haven't received any materials yet. But, what e-mail are you guys talking about? Yesterday I got another congratulations letter from a Professor but no explanation whatsoever.
I appreciate any information.
Thanks in advance.

Hi Deni,

The email had some instuctions and materials regarding:

a) course registration materials for the Fall 2006 semester; b) payment information;
c) housing information;
d) insurance information; and
e) The Medical History and Physical Report (mandatory for New Students).

If you still haven't gotten the email, then you should probably email the Program directly and ask them about it. I don't think there were any immediate or urgent deadlines, but its probably better to read it sooner than later

Hello Everyone,

I know this might be a bit off subject, butI am interested in a Legal English Course or anything similar that might be offered in Boston, as my fiancee might be staying with me a while. Can anyone help?

Hi, I don't have any information but there is a discussion for English courses and visa status of fiancees. Check there, you can find something useful.
Good luck,

Hi, it seem to be that you're very inform about all this process. I'm very exciting of been part of the LLM in B&F of BU, but I'm a little concern about the job perspectives (in the US) after we finish the program, what do you thing?

See you

regarding job opportunities - I don't know if you have seen this on BU's website, but the law school does have a career development office. They will not place students in jobs, but they will advise us and direct us to resources to help our searches. In addition, there are often job-fairs for lawyers and law students throughout Boston and New York City (NYC is about a 4 hour train ride away), for which I'm sure we will be given notice. Finally, there will most likely be some on-campus interviews. We should have full access to the career development website once the school year gets going, and at that time I assume they will explain what other resources are available to us. Until then you can still get some basic information on the website.

if everyone already knows all of this, then please disregard this message.

With regards to the password -

Do you mean for the BU job postings? We most likely won't have access to that until we actually start at BU. But if you want to get an early start looking at jobs, you can still go to the career development website and click on the link for "Online Resources" - that will bring you to a long list of other sites that you can use to look for a variety of jobs.

If you are talking about the login and password to access the materials that BU emailed us about (course registration, etc.), the login ID and pasword was provided near the beginning of the email that they sent us.

hope that helps

Hey Mariya,

I have had quite loans from US banks all through law school and will be getting them next year. I can't speak to any issues specific to being a foreign applicant, I assume you can't borrow U.S. government education loans so I'll just say something about private loans. The financial aid section of the law schoo's website explains the different types pretty well. I would recommend the access group's law access loan. I would say 95% of my class uses them for their private loans and they offer decent rates and have a simple application process. Also, a few of my friends and myself applied online with Bank of America for an Education Maximizer loan, which is TERI loan. The thing about the education maximizer is bank of america does not check with the school so you can exceed the student budget if you wish. Comes in handy for refinancing credit card debt, though that technically is illegal.

best,

Also, I wanted to add a friendly note about BU's career development. I don't want to be overly negative, but I wouldn't count on them for much. Over my three years here they have consistently gotten better each year, but they are still subpar at best. (please don't go telling them i said that). I can guarantee their focus will be on getting 2nd year JD students jobs. As for the online job postings, I will log on and if i see anything of interest I'll post it here on this board. What i consider "of interest" would be a corporate/banking/financial law job in Boston or New York, so if someone would like me to look for something else let me know.

Hey Grant,
Thank for that offer - I think that will be very usefull for all of us.
I have a F-1 visa which give me a right to work only in BU so it is very important to me to find a good job. Any ideas? I have heart that the wages are between $8-$15, is it true?

Mariya,

I don't know much about MEFA other than I've heard people say they have them. I would just call MEFA directly to ask about the citizenship requirement. For jobs around campus, most students who get a job are research assistants for professors. I did that for a year, they pay $10 an hour, set your own hours, you basically just do research in the library. The law library also needs people to work the front desk, i think they make about $10/hour too. The University's General Counsel takes on one or two people as well, they pay more, maybe $12-$15. And of course there is always being a server for the University's catering service.

The only job posting of note up on simplicity is for a boston financial services company: New Star Financial, www.newstarfin.com. They are looking for a legal analyst, salary range of $50k-$60k.

do with that what you will
