Hi everybody!
I am a journalist from an italian legal magazine (TopLegal) and I need your help to write an article about the best LLMs in the US because I know almost none about it!
Can you tell me which are, in your opinion or according to the most reliable rankings, the best master of laws in the United States?
Which one would you choose if you where an italian law student willing to know more about international law?
Thank you for the help. If you want, you can also write me at chiara.albanese@toplegal.it

Thank you.
Beside official rankings, though, I would like to know the informal ones!
Which one is best because: easier to get in, better in terms of cost/quality relationship and so on...
Thank you again

I am interested in international law so i am applying to the Washington college of law at American university. Their international legal studies program is 5th. All the universities ranked above it for international law are big name schools so i surmise that Washington college of law will be easier to get into than the other ones. In terms of cost, its not notably cheaper than the other top tier schools. However, since they won't provide accommodation for you as a postgraduate law student, you can find your own accommodation and this can cut down your expenses. They estimate accommodation at 14 400 for the year, but i'm looking to spend around $8,500 for the year and make things a little cheaper on myself.

No I'm Scottish, but i have lived in South Africa for the past decade, with my family. I'm 24.
I graduated from the university of Cape Town in South Africa, so now i want to do an LLM in the US. I stated that Washington college is ranked 5th based on the information i got on wikipedia, which references the US news report rankings. I have e-mailed an admission officer for the information and to find out some extra things, like the employment prospects of a foreign llm graduate of the ILSP program that they offer. I will share the response when i get it.

The most authoritative ranking of US law schools is the one by US News: http://grad-schools.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/usnews/edu/grad/rankings/law/brief/lawrank_brief.php

thank you again for the participation. Another question for you: do you think for an international student (italian in this case) the price and the discomfort of moving is worth?

Chiaratl, if you want to consider the best US law schools and therefore the best LLMs in the US you should check the US News ranking for law schools. It is really the only ranking that matters in the US and it really matters not only in the US, but also abroad.
In terms of cost/benefit for Italians, although I am not Italian, my understanding is that an LLM Degree in a good school in the US is still a very good choice for professionals that are interested in maximize their marketability, because 1) when applying for positions in multinational companies it is always considered a plus. It means that you speak English very well and also that you have an international background, which is great in a global market 2) for law firms it is also great to hire LLMs, because usually the best law firms have a lot of foreign clients and need professionals with international background that studied in some of the best universities in the World. As we all know, US still has 8 out of the 10 best universities in the World according to the best rankings.
I believe the best sign that for Europeans, including Italians, an LLM Degree in a good school in the US is still a good choice is the NY Job Fair (the job fair for LLMs from top US law schools). Every year law firms from most of the European countries (such as England, Germany, Grance and Italy) come to the US to recruit students in this Job Fair.
Still about cost/benefit for Italians, although if you go to a good US law school it is worth it to do an LLM I could not say the same about a not so good school in the US. I believe foreigns are becoming each year more selective about which school they should go in the US and they should, because the LLM Degree in the US is becoming each year more common in the market. For marketability purposes, sometimes a master in a top school in your home country could be better than an LLM in a not so good school in the US. Because financial and personal costs are not so high.

Thank you for your reply. Where are you from? Have you already done an LLM? Where? Can you give me some other info about the job fair?
Thank you
