Berkeley Professional Track

Hi guys,

I was offered admission to UC Berkeley Professional Track LLM last week. Although this is exciting news, I would much prefer to do the Academic Track. Reasons being I am a fresh LLB graduate and I am currently not employed.

I am worried that if I accept the offer for the professional track, this may prejudice my application for the traditional track. However, if I don't accept the professional track, I am worried that I may not end up gaining admission to an LLM program in the States at all.

Could someone please advise me the best way around this? Does gaining admission to the Professional Track LLM suggest I have a competitive application for a chance to gain admission to the Traditional Track LLM?

Thanks all!

Hello there,

Admission to the professional track of our program - or acceptance/denial of the offer - does not have any impact on your consideration for the traditional track. They are handled by entirely separate admissions committees.

In this situation we recommend accepting your offer to the professional track; if you are admitted to the traditional track and prefer to attend it, you may transfer your deposit from one track to the other.

Please feel free to contact our office if you have other questions or concerns.

I will most likely accept the traditional track if I am admitted. It seems to me that the admission standard is relatively lower for the professional track than the traditional track, so I think we should keep waiting. Do you think this point of view is correct?

Hey :)
1. Is it possible to stay in USA after the end of the summer (the professional track).
2. Is there an option to work at university/take courses/ work in a law office between the two summers?
3. Is it possible to continue to PHD / JSD after the professional track?

I have the exact same concern ! I got in the professional track , but I just graduated law school and was interested in the traditional one. But I was afraid to accept and be disqualified from the traditional track. I guess the only thing is to save our spots until the admission for the traditional track is out :(
