Sirs,
I followed this forum for the last 6 months, but I just created an account here today to reply some of posts that I have read in recent times
It is incredible how the Professional LL.M. program offered by Berkeley is underrated and underestimated for some of the guys here. I read in another threads some students saying that they prefer the traditional LL.M. (10-12 months) offered by less traditional universities (I will not name any to avoid controversies) over the Professional LL.M herein discussed.
With all the respect to the mentioned opinions, come on fellows, in which planet you live?
1. Berkeley is one of the best universities of the world. Such status is also confirmed by the most respect rankings, as the ARWU raking in which Berkeley always figured in the TOP 4 Global University;
2. The professors and the LL.M degree are the same, both in Academic and Professional program;
3. The quality of the professors are extremely high. Please do some research and compare the C.V of the professors with those who teach at other universities;
4. The fact that the university offers the Professional LL.M for those who prefer study at two summers should be seen as a pioneering initiative and not as a negative fact since as a general rule the world class universities offers only the traditional LL.M program over 10-12 months. Open your mind, don´t be outdated;
5. Some here claim that the admission standards are much lower in the Professional program in comparison with the traditional. I talked with some Boalt Hall LL.M. students and could see that this is not true. Just as in my case, some students only apply for the Professional or prefer the Professional program over the Academic. It should be borne in mind also that the Professional has much less seats available in comparison with the regular program, which helps to ensure the quality of the program;
6. It´s obvious that the professional has advantages and disadvantages over the academic and people should look for the best for their needs;
7. Berkeley has one of the most beautiful and modern campus among the most traditional universities.
JFYI, I just applied for the Professional LL.M (yest, not applied for Harvard, Stanford, etc.) for my own reasons (especially job) and will be part of the 2013/2014 class. Also for your guidance, I´m pretty sure that I´m qualified and have credentials to easily be admitted in any university of the world.
For those who was admitted in the Professional Program, see you in Berkeley soon.

Hi there C. Tax,
I loved your post. I have been studying the program and it seems to me like a more that acceptable option... This is Berkeley, for God's sake! I was being overly insecure myself, but after a little time to digest this news I am extremely excited about my acceptance and am about to enroll. I only have to figure out some concerns that I will discuss with the Univ. Office...
I guess I will see you soon!

Hello,
Yes, you have enough reasons to celebrate your achievement. Enjoy it and Congrats! And more important I really hope to see you soon in Berkeley. Much better to be there in the summer instead freezing in MA.
PS: Where you come from?

Im not applying for the Profissional LLM, but I totally agree with C. Tax. Berkeley is a highly-regarded university in both academic and profissional LLMs.
By the way, has anyone applying for the academic LLM gone Under Review yet? I've completed my application on December 12nd and my status has not changed yet.

My application went complete on December 5th, still not under review, so no reason to worry.

Hey guys,
I am also attending the Prof. LLM at Boalt (well, at least if I do not get admission offer from NYU). I already enrolled and activated the visa process. I come from Italy.
The reasons that lead me to accept Boalt over other Law Schools offers is: come on, it is Berkeley Law! And than: spending two summers in California? Does it sound so bad?
Of course, NYU would give more network connections and there are more specific courses available, but if I do not get there ( and I think I will not) I am sure I will not regret attending Boalt Professionl LLM. I also got admission offer for Acaddemic Year LLM from other LSs lower in ranking but I declined them.
See u there in May.

I could not attend it. Would be great if some of you do not mind sharing the info?

Dear all,
I might see some of you (I hope all :-) ) next year since I'll be completing my second semester at Berkeley.I'm from the professionnal LLM.
I'll be glad to answer any of the questions you may have regarding this program.
As far as I'm concerned, I think this program was perfect for me in many ways.
We are a small class of 50 people from different parts of the world and we get along pretty well. the program requires a lot of work though but we are an amazing cohesive group and we get quite friendly with the teachers. watch soccer, drink a beer, eat lunch with them or go to their house. I will even be playing tennis with some of them in May so if you play tennis, bring your racket , we got pretty decent players!
For some of you who may have doubts about the professional LLM, I can guarantee you that Berkeley recruited an amazing pool of students last year and the year before; lawyers from big international firms, big companies, teachers.... brillliant I tell you, so be ready to have your mind challenged nad get your network expanded!
If you got selected, its because Berkeley believes that you got great potential otherwise they would not admit you because once you get berkeley labelled its for life and they don't want any bad reputation reflecting on their name. makes sense, right?
I'm counting the days to go back, seeing all of my friends and meeting you guys! Us 2S got a lot in store for the newbies coming this year! Be ready for a treat!!

Hi everyone!
I am a LL.M student at Berkeley this year. As I'll leave earlier than expected (in May instaed of July) I am looking for a student interested in living at Manville next year (see on Berkeley Website, their apartments are really great and I love mine). As I am leaving in May,I am trying to find someone who can take the lease from June (they give a lease for one year). If some of you already know that they are accepted and want to live in Manville or if you know that you could be interested if you are accepted let me know!
I can sell all the furniture at the same time (really useful, to have everything when you arrive and it perfectly fit to the apartment since it has been bought for that purpose!).
Good luck to all of you:)

My status changed on Jan 19 to "under review". Fingers crossed! Does anyone know how long it should take until they make a decision?

When did you receive app. complete e-mail? I think that with Berkeley it could take awhile until you get a decision from the moment it becomes "under review".

I received the application complete e-mail on Nov 19. I agree it should still take a while.. at least I was not expecting any decision until mid March.

My status changed to "under review" on January, 19th too. I think this happened to all applications at the same time.
Actually, according to Berkeley's site, admission decisions for the Academic Year LL.M. program is made at the same time, not on a rolling basis.

My application is still complete since December 5. I think they review applications in the order they were completed.

Further they have mentioned clearly on website:
All Academic Year LL.M. applications are reviewed at the same time, and early or expedited decisions are not possible.
Application under review - Your application is under review, and you will receive notification of the decision as soon as possible. Please note that the review process can take up to a month, and early or expedited decisions are not possible.
