apply for a LLM concentration - advantage?

Hi,

Do you believe that it is advantageous to apply for a specialized LLM (tax, corporate,...) instead of choosing a General LLM.
This question refers in particular to Harvard
are you bound by the choices you make in your application?

thanks in advance

(Excluding Tax LLM programs which have their own concerns in general...) You can sign up for any class you want at Harvard, and make final applications for concentrations once you move in. However, when you apply for concentrations, they do look at your personal statement, and competition for the dozen or so slots in the International Finance Concentration (and its special capital markets-related seminars and guest lectures) was fierce this year.

i got an email saying that you edited your message. indeed you put your first sentence into brackets.
but i still do not understand what you mean?

Am i bound by my choice for the Tax LLM?
Are there many demands for this LLM??

thank you very much in advance (i think this is really important)

I was a bit sleepy when I typed that. For Harvard, you're not bound by anything I think, since you pick your courses after you arrive here, including concentrations (or lack of). Some people taking tax subjects are not necessarily in a Tax concentration.

As for demand, consider that Tax LLMs are one of few that American JDs take. Another such LLM where I've met JDs is Boston U's Banking and Finance LLM.
