I dont think age really matters. I was a lawyer at 22 and I have been working for two years now already and will be 24 when I commence my LLM.
I dont think I am too old or too young.:)
age?

guyssssssss....everyones had ample work experience....and i've had close to none ( one year interning doesnt count ) ...does that mean i'm going to be at some sort of disadvantage at college...???????????

I'm 24.
Don't think age is an issue as grades and personality seem to be decisive.

dont worry SRK, I hae had many freinds who went to Ivy league schools in the US for an LLM immediately on graduating from their law degree and they did just fine.
personally, I took open day classes in most of the law schools of my choice in the US one year one year prior to graduation and then decided to not apply and work for a few years. It really helped me especially in the choosing the courses and the area of specialisation.

i dunno....i'm kindda nervous now.......do you think one can do equally well at college with no work experience?
Posted Apr 06, 2005 15:40
I do not think that there is anything to worry about. I am absolutely sure that the ability to learn does not depend on the work experience. If you did fine in your previous university you will most likely do fine in the LL.M program. Age also does not matter at all. Some young people can be much more mature than the older ones.

yeh i know you're right....i did pretty well at my university here....i was on honour roll...got a gold medal on graduation but going to an Ivy League is over whelming for me as it is....i just hope i do well

SRK:
I am sure you'll do well. I have a friend with no work experience who is now doin an LL.M at Columbia an was admitted for the SJD for next year!!! an he is doing fine!
Working experience is important but not essential.

srk:
Stop worrying about your age. If you were admitted, it's because you have the capacity to enter the Law Schools. An LLM may be different from what we've experienced so far in our respective Law Schools, but in the end, it remains a question of listening, studying, talking and taking exams in one way or the other. You did it fine before, and you'll go on doing it fine :). As an old guy, I feel more pressure than you to be surrounded by brilliant young sparks; there are plenty of people below 25 here, so don't worry (and remember that JD's students are all less than 25 normally).
The only thing, maybe, is that it may make a difference as regards future employment, as people might prefer someone with some experience before. But there again, I'm not sure. It will much more depends about your nationality (are you in an expanding market such as Russia, our new EU countries friends, or Asia); then you might be interesting for them. Otherwise, if you're in the same situation as me, Switzerland hmmm, you're not interesting for them and you won't have a lot of chances unless you're from one of the top law schools and one of the top students in your Law School. Hard, but that's the law of the market.

It's only you that have to decide. Don't let your life in the others hand or stupid mentality. It's your life, it's your project, it's your dream. Nobody have to put you out of the chance to study for a new job. Why it's too late???? If it's not late for you, what matters what the others think.!! Remember it's your life, only your life, and for what we know we have just one life (I'm not so sure...).
Lawyers in my country are able to work at age of 70, 75, and 80 years old. I know personally, they have the better clients and for the young lawyers is very hard to find space...
