If you want to stay in America, a JD is your best bet. However, you can take the bar exam in NY with an LLM. The trick is finding a job.

I would go for the JD. You are young enough to invest the three years in the degree.

Go for JD if you are very wealthy ! If you work very hard you will find a job.
But joining a JD in prestigious Law schools is VERY difficult.
Some have very limited exchange program that MAY allow you to undergo only 2 years of JD instead of 3 regarding your academic performance.

I am french too, 21, and unfortunately i did not qualify for JD so i am going to attend LLM and take the bar exam at the end of the year.

LLM is easier for foreigner. A LOT. even in good Law school ! However you are to young to be selected in HAVARD , COLUMBIA or NYU.

A friend of mine - french 20 like you- with outstanding academic record ( 14,5 moyenne generale depuis tjs + excellent niveau d'anglais Juridique) was rejected. Why ?
mainly because : too young + No DESS/ DEA.

Goood luck on your search !!!

Hi,

The University Of Paris1-Panthéon Sorbonne offers a double diploma program (Maîtrise de droit) + JD from the University of Columbia or JD from Cornell. You spend the first 2 years in Columbia or Cornell and the last 2 years in Paris. After that you'll get your maitrise and your JD.

It is highly competitive but worth it.

You should contact the Professor in charge of this program : Patrick Juillard. The requirement is 2 years of study afther the baccalauréat.

I precise that the cost of the program is very low since you only pay the tuition of the Sorbonne which is about 200 US $ per year.
