Congratulations to you all!

yes, congratulations to all of you.
I have a question regarding admission: I assume we all got the same/similar email/letter: on mine it just says "congratulations on your admission" - I was a bit surprised because I was expecting a conditional offer since I haven't obtained my law degree yet: any thoughts on this point?
I think UK schools usually give out conditional offers: is this uncommon for the US???
Cheers,
Dom

I believe that there is a single mail for anybody admitted but maybe the admission letter and the additional materials will be a little more "individualized" with information regarding the program in which each one has been admitted, pending requirements,...,
Posted Dec 13, 2005 23:18
I agree. I guess the letters are all somehow standardized but later on they shall send us some specific application forms. You have not received GU´s package yet (contrary to me and acm123) but you guys will see that the binder they send you will only contain basic info on the university and its premises, glances of life in DC, etc., all signed by current LLM candidates. Basically, their intention is to convince you that they are a cool option for would-be graduates. I guess it works out - I should confess that I am using the keyring they send enclosed...

You guys, now that we're in, may I ask how you will finance your education at georgetown? It's really expensive!

hello everyone, I also got my admission from Georgetown (general program) last week. I am from Taiwan. Hope to see you all there soon! ^___^

Honestly, I have no idea...I still have to call my parents...maybe they'll come up with something...there's no way I can pay for a master's degree with my savings and with my salary here...
And when I get the chance to have some free time from work, I definitely have to check different possibilities online starting from "Funding your LLM"...Any other suggestions?
Thanks and congrats for you too. ;)

guess this is a no brainer, but nevertheless: check on the Georgetown website under financial aid. There is a list with institutions for scholarships etc-depending on your country of origin.
cheers,
Dom
(yes I am excited about going to GULC and DC, hope to see you all there)

From which countries are you guys? Is Georgetown your first option? Do you know anyone who has studied there?
Posted Dec 15, 2005 19:37
I could get funding from my parents but I think it's too much of a burden to have them pay even for my postgrad schooling.
Same here anushka, I have no time yet to check on scholarships. My after-office hours are spent on running after reccomenders for their letters and tweaking personal statements for the different schools I'm interested in. I envy those who have already sent in all their application requirements!
I think most schools award scholarships on merit (thus, highly competitive) and student loans are available only for US residents (definitely excludes me).

I'll be getting the FedEx package one of these days (got a mail from Fedex), so let's see what it says...
Hobbes, I personally sent all my applications already, so now I just wait for decisions...(but yes, I remember it was a pain in the neck to get all the papers together)...Good luck with that.
I really need to devote more time on figuring out how to finance my studies...I'll start this weekend...

GULC and NYU are tied as my third option (after HLS and Columbia). I still have to wait to see what the other schools have to say, but no matter what they decide, I am pretty happy already...
By the way, I'm working in a firm in Canada, but I got my law degree in Buenos Aires, and I was born in Korea. ;) Where am I from? I personally get really confused when I get this kind of questions...

Same for me Anushka, I'm waiting for other replies, but I'm even happier today since I have received the materials Georgetown sent : make sure to check out the CD inside (hidden at the end of the file), really interesting :) And DC is a very international town (more than Durham -Duke-, for example ...).
I'm from France by the way :)

Does anyone know the deadline to make the deposit and secure the position? I think I saw in this forum that the deadline is around April...Can anyone confirm it? The offer I got from USC must be confirmed until March 15, so maybe it is the same with Georgetown (end of March beginning of April).
Posted Dec 19, 2005 14:56
I saw that post as well. However, no news regarding confirmation deadlines on my end but i think this will be one of the topics that will be taken up in the webpage that the acceptance letter informed us will be established soon.
Posted Dec 23, 2005 13:06
It seems the information we had was really accurate. Have you guys checked the admitted students page? It says that the deadline for the first deposit is April 3. Hope we receive more answers until this date so that we can make a decision.
