Colleagues, can you please help me to choose the right college? I have been admitted to KCL, QMUL, UCL and LSE. My main speciality is IP and TMT law, and i know that QMUL is the best choice for this course. Nevertheless, I believe that in general the reputation of LSE is better (I don't know why it's just the idea I stuck with). Therefore, I wonder whether anyone knows about IP courses there or can help me to make the reasonable choice. Many thanks in advance.
Which college to choose? KCL, QMUL, UCL or LSE

you're right, qm does have a strong rep for ip, but is miles behind lse and ucl otherwise. i'd probably go for lse or ucl notwithstanding the IP question. i'd pick between the two based on specific modules on offer etc. good luck with your choice, and well done on your admits!

UCL is ranked first in London and a survey has even ranked it first in the UK...The problem (like LSE) is that it is not known abroad. Surprisingly, KCL by contrast is very famous outside the UK and has a good reputation...

You are definetely right about UCL and KCL, but imo LSE has an excellent reputation, also outside the UK.

LSE has a good reputation but for example it is unknown in France, my country...In France everyone knows KCL...Nobody knows UCL and LSE whereas they are better than KCL:

I agree with the posts above and one easily forgets what LSE is famous for : economics !!
Indeed, whereas UCL is ranked above KCL in the UK, in continental europe KCL seems to be more prestigious.
So again, your choice must depends on the country you want to pratice or your home country.

I am from Russia, and generally speaking the known UK unis here include Cambridge and Oxford... thank you all for commenting!

My background is in TMT (including 10 years working at one of the international firms in London), and I am currently studying unrelated subjects at the LSE. If you're serious about the comms /technology side, as well as "pure" IP, I'd definitely go for QMUL. The IP and comms lawyers in the UK based international firms generally recognise the relative strength of the QMUL programme.

Dear legalalien, many thanks for your response. Can you please advise whether you are satisfied with LSE programme? In other words, is it worth it?

Depends what you mean by "worth it" :) I'm largely doing this out of intellectual interest rather than for the purposes of getting a job (although the new stuff I'm learning will help), and from my perspective it's worth it. Various members of my year group have been successful in getting traineeships at London firms. One thing I would say is that the style of teaching varies quite a lot between courses - some are quite high level / give an overview of law and practice in a particular area; others are very detailed / law focussed (and much more consistent with the teaching experience that I had as an undergraduate in NZ back in the dark ages). One thing I would say is that the course is much more "taught" than I anticipated a masters course would be - I thought it would be more seminar based and student-led. I'm fine with the fact that it's not!

It seems to be good for me either. Thank you for a detailed response.

Have you considered to follow the LLM of the University of Liège ?
It offers a very good educational program on IP law, with the possibility for students to do an intership in IP during the year !
Just give a look here : http://www.llm-guide.com/university/533/university-of-liege-institute-for-european-legal-studies
