Hi,
Does anyone know what overall mark is needed to be accepted to an LLM at UCL? I have 7.6/10, and I doubt I will be able to make it to an 8 (I know that KCL and LSE demands an 8). I really hope it's a 7.5 because I won't be able to get 8/10...
Thanks for any answers
Cheers

Hey LLMhunter,
I was admitted to UCL with an overall mark of 7.8 (Leiden). I reckon you stand a decent chance of getting in, provided that you write a good personal statement, have good references etc..
Hopefully this was somewhat useful to you.

I was looking for conversion sheets but can't find them for the universities you mentioned.
UCL requires at least an upper second certificate, which they say is equivalent to a GPA of 3.3 out of 4. From University Utrecht and Edinburgh University I know that they see a 4.0 as an 8.0 Dutch grade, so a 3.3 would be a 7.3. I'm not sure if this is always the case or whether it is the same for UCL or other unis, but I think it should be generally accepted that an 8 average is equivalent to a 4.0.

How come the requirement of UCL is lower than that of the KCL?

It might be higher this year. I'm still waiting to receive the conditions regarding the overall mark...

These conversion tables are highly arbitrary. I have no clue why KCL has set higher entry requirements than LSE and UCL for Dutch students. I have no idea how this is applied in practice either, as I never had the intention of going to KCL.
Anyway, all you can do is try to keep your marks up now. Seeing as how there are no costs to applying -- or only small costs in the case of LSE -- you have nothing to lose. Give it a try and see what happens. (: I would not be too discouraged by what is being said about the entry requirements; they can always be bent a little to your favour.
