Hi Clem,
I also had to have my transcripts and diplomas translated for British universities, so I went to see a "traducteur assermenté" in Paris who made a certified translation into English of my certificed photocopies (I had them certified by the British Council). This type of translation was accepted by the universities I applied to.
You can send me a private message if you want more information about the translator.

Hello Clem,
i sent my french transcrips to a "traducteur assermenté" in Paris. It seems it's the better (and probably) the only way... , It's expensive. It costs about 40-50 for a leave...
Send me a PM for further details.

You can with no doubt find "traducteurs assermentés" in Lyon since there are some in every Cour d'appel. You should go to the Mairie and ask for the list (for Lyon, I'm not sure you can find it on the Internet) and then contact the translator directly.

I totally agree with you fburnat.
When I was speaking about the "only way" of obtaining transcripts, I was thinking of the need of a "traducteur assermenté". I hope I didn't cause any confusion.
