To join the learned...

Greetings, It has been my dream to become and be "the best" in legal fraternity. I m Ugandan with a zeal to learn among the best and be the best.

I m soon graduating-February 2011(3.47-2nd lower class degree) and want to apply for a masters in either finance and banking law or labor law or human rights law on self sponsorship from university of London. I intend to return and apply the law acquired in my own country-Uganda. I know there are senior counsels out there who can guide and advise me on the way forward.

What courses are viable given the political, economic and social situation in third world countries where i come from. What other opportunities and or universities if any can be recommended in case London University can not offer me a place?

Kind regards.

Hi.

I dont think being from a so-called third world country should have anything to do with your LLM I mean, you must scout about for the modules and courses you want to do

Its possible that the underlying reasons have some sort of relation to your country and the environment you live in for instance, you might want to acquire in-depth knowledge of banking law because you live in a developing country with an increasing bank system and with lack of appropriate regulation. You may want to do human rights and other related courses because you live in a country where human rights are simply disregarded you may want to do canon law, because you live in Vatican and want to become a priest or minister

But its not just because you live in a (once again, so-called) third world country, that you should purse a specific university what really matters is what you want to study and how you want to use it to change your country or not, you may simply want to pursue graduate study for your own personal benefit who knows

Generally speaking, if you want to pursue graduate study in the UK in laws, the most renowned universities (in my humble opinion) would be:

London:

1st LSE and UCL
2nd KCL
3rd Queen Mary
4th SOAS (but only for certain specific areas I would consider applying)

England in general (exclusive of London):

1st Cambridge and Oxford
2nd Nottingham and Durham
3rd Birmingham
4th Warwick

Scotland:

1st Edinburgh
2nd Aberdeen
3rd Glasgow
4th - Dundee

Wales:

1st Cardiff

Northern Ireland:

1st Queens Belfast

I mightve left some unis out simply because I didnt remember

Hope that helps!

Thank you so that much for your message. I read and appreciated the content therein. Kings College,Queen Mary or Birmingham would be a good choice for me.Now that i intend to join in 2011 immediately after my graduation in February, how is that viable. Please if you are aware of different intakes and entry requirements about such Universities, it would be of a service to me. I have 3.47GPA (second class lower), which University could offer me a place to do Banking and Finance or Labor law or even Human Rights law? . I will be in need of much of your help with intended application and admission to a good university in England, I m grateful so far.
Kind Regards
Joventine
