Strathclyde

Hi,
I am thinking about doing the LLM/PdDip in IT&Telecommunications Law in Strathclyde. Does anybody know this program? Is it useful to develop an international career or is it more focused on U.K. law? How about its quality/reputation?
Thanks.

Hi Efrail! I received an offer from Strath for its LLM in ICT law that you want to know but I reject it due to the fact that I have been accepted to several US law schools.
As far as I know the program is really interesting and it is one of the universities taking part to the EULISP program in legal informatics. In terms of specialized faculty is one of the best of its kind (i.e. ICT law) in EU.
On the other hand the cons are that the school is not so highly ranked and consequently not so appealing to your future potential employers. You should apply also to the similar program that U.of Edinburgh offers as well as to the Queen Mary London, KCL and K.U.Leuven. Those schools are definitely more prestigious than Strath and are more likely to boost your career. It will be of great help to you looking the site of EULISP program and the corresponding links uploaded there. Good Luck!

A number of universities claim to have ICT specialisations. check carefully though the modules they each have on offer because some are a little thin on the ICT side and make up the scheme with general international/commercial courses. Also, some have a particular emphasis - for example IP or regulatory matters. This is neither a good thing or a bad thing - it just depends what you want to do. Another university with a specialist degree which has been around for a while now is Essex - I know that one because I set it up.

That's a good advice, too Imwoods. I'd like to take a course with an international focus; something I can use to find a job anywhere in the EU. Maybe that's a bit naive, but I am already taking a course in Spanish IT with a focus on regulation, and I'd like something more global, both in contents and national scope. Does it sound mad?

Given how much of the telecoms regime at national level within EU member states is driven by the EU, I'd say not mad at all; likewise extending scope of regulatory concern on to the interent with AVMSD. Within these EU debates there is a fair amount of lobbying going on and the coices aren't just Euuropean..... Good luck with it.
