Solicitor deciding on doing an LLM

ElLoco

Hi, I am a qualified Solicitor as well as a qualified lawyer in the continent, however I am working as a paralegal in London. Since I could not found a job as a lawyer in London after over one year (after over 30 interviews in-house!) searching, I am now thinking of doing an LLM Part time. I am 36 years old, do you think I have any chance to improve my situation if by the time I get 38 years old I finish the LLM? Or should I just do some random 4 month course instead? Any alternative ideas? Many Thanks

Kerfuffle

Lots of LLM students (especially in London) are qualified lawyers and have been practising for many years (your age is no big deal). Whether the LLM will be an asset to your job hunts depends on what specialism you study and the related networking opportunities.

Patience is probably the biggest factor to improving your job chances (at the moment you're be competing with a two-year glut of UK law graduates, and paralegal work being outsourced).
