Hi,
I'm considering the LL.M in International Trade law at the the University of Northumbria. Has anyone heard anything good or bad about the program in terms of the content and delivery of the program and the reputation of the university. Any input will be of help. Thanks a lot.
Regards,
Raj

If I would do a distance education LLM I would choose the University of London External Program or University of Strathclyde (Glasgow Graduate School of Law). But I don't know about Northumbria, the university is not really good in the rankings, but not too bad either. I guess it is better than some US online courses, as I think in Britain you cannot call yourself "university" just if you feel like it.

Thanks for your response Russ. I really do appreciate it. With regard to the rankings you speak of, where can I access these rankings? Thanks a lot.

Thanks again russ. Why is there such a difference in the two rankings. One has, for example, Northumbria at #15, whereas the other ranking has Northumbria at #57. Which is more reliable? Thanks again for your responses.

Both, the Good Times ranking and the Guardian ranking, are considered to be reliable. I don' t know why there is such a difference. Just take the average!

Raj,
Although I can't comment on the Northumbria LL.M, I can attest to the rigor of the LL.B programme by distance learning. The disparity in the rankings is simply put: the Times includes a resarch ranking while the Guardian does not. Ergo, some university law schools place a great emphasis on legal research while others such a Northumbria are practictioner oriented and have not been assigned a research score. Needless- to -say, some professors at Northumbria are quite scholarly!

Hi,
I have LLM from the Northumbria University in EU Law through Distance Learning. It is an excellent University which I can recommend to anybody. I am really proud of the Institution. Try it because the taste of the pudding is in the eating. The International Trade Law is excellent. Believe me.The lecturers are the best that I have seen.

I obtained my Northumbria LLM in Commercial Law (via distance learning) in 2004 and I am now writing to the university to enrol for its LLM in International Trade Law. Will that speak for itself?

Northumbria LLM is a "practice" program. Very practical with little or no law theories. It is very good. I have the LLM in commercial law after an MSc in Engineering (20 years in between) and it met and exceeded my expectations.
